i read this last spring/summer, he was always going to do this. I follow V 8s it's a wonderful formula but for Moto GP and me it's a big loss.

I guess he just wants to stay closer to home & his family. I agree its a great loss to bike racing and Moto GP. and hey there cant be much better thrapping a big V8 up and down the mountain at Bathurst can there?!

Here's wishing him all the best in his new venture. So many exbike racers fail to make much of an impact in other forms of motor sport after a successful career. I suspect he may be an exception.

Always knew he was going to do this when he retired from motogp.
Good luck to him and i hope he's as good in a v8 supercar as he was on a bike !!

Makes me think even more that once he had a child he would give up, said this to the wife as soon as the news broke his wife was preggy. Close to home, can't blame him but he will be missed in Moto GP

And did he get the same probs Rossi did at Honda, too much PR was expected etc....

He's just posted on his official twitter account that the story is not true, he hasn't confirmed anything yet!

When you are young / loaded and have connections you are not going to Sit on the porch all day chewing over the glory days .Just look a at the likes of Doohan / Spencer / Bayliss. They are never away from the circus.Rossi likes his Rally Cars and why not .For me I would rather not see that crying arse of a face ever again !But I doubt it.

Like him or not he was an exceptional rider and even caused the top GP riders to stare in disbelief at some of his antics.... its is a loss to motor bike racing but i wish him well in the future, i do wonder if in a number of years to come he will look back at this time and wonder if he did the right thing if wins do not come his way, time will tell.

Too true ChrissOzzz, i went thundering around Bathhurst 1n 1977 in a Ford Falcon (straight six not v8) back then Conrod Straight was a straight with no chicane, i had a whale of a time. Sadly 5 people have died during the race, that is why the chicane before the left turn on to the main straight was introduced. Back then it was all "Peter Perfect" or "Brocky" who was the peoples favourite.
