Just in from a wee jaunt out on the bike after work, when I stop over for a coffee 50miles away, and take a glance at the rear of the bike I think damn somethings missing.. Yeah you bloody guessed it my registration plate(7x5), damn plastic yellow and black bolts have worked loose on the tail tidy. I actually think I'm more annoyed that I've lost my Yoshimura graphic on the rear of it. This ever happened to anyone else, what do yous guys use, think my new plate will be going on with metal bolts and washers with nylock nuts..
happened to me . bought the bike with a small plate and the original . first time out and a bit paranoid i decide to put the original one on but only used 3m tape (lots of it) go for a blast with me mate , everyones looking at my bike yeah . finish my cuppa go outside and i can see why no feckin number plate .
I can beat that .I got pulled over going towards Hereford on the A49 a couple of years ago .Said to the officer whats the problem he replies you have no number plate and we were ready for you doing one (Black R1 ) so would have looked the part . Anyhow what had happened was that i had the one piece rear light with indicators built in and the after market bracket which was not a cheapo had snapped off leaving the flat bit still screwed to the underside of the undertray. The cop to be fair was ok with it they had a good look for the serial no to check me plus bike = ok did not get fussed about the can or the black visor even the tax disc was in the boot and they understood why. (Traffic cops driving full on BMW X5) so he give me a rectification notice that i took to the Mot station with the new plate and happy ish days. The good news was i was packing a small plate so either way it was going to cost me.
Or some clear silicone on the threads.. I use some sticky back foam pads and plastic bolts, I do have some bolt less plates with just the foam but some tails don't have enough meat to stick too..
Remember though guys there's Velcro and then good Velcro ! I use the stuff from my nitro helicopter and it's the best I've ever come across, don't cheap out on the crap Velcro .
I thought the plastic bolts worked like nyloks, never thought they'd shake loose. Glue gun on them tomorrow then.
i still use the 2 plastic bolts but also have a strip of foam tape running right across the plate but i have a small plate. when the 9x7 plates goes on i put a third bolt in lower down on the plate just to be sure
