Owww errrr Right the criteria for what I want is as follows other than fit and comfort which takes precedence. Sporty design Well ventilated Used mainly for dry fast road and track The best lid I have had was this one Sete Gibernau Arai So much choice I have no idea what to narrow it down to. I like Arai, Never tried Shoei but love some of the looks of the lids. Schuberth RS1. Anyone had a X-lite? Currently want to look at the AGV GP tech, Shoei GT Air. Arai RX7-GP Like the Edwards lid, Shoei X-Spirit 2 Laseca TC2
I Have Shoei xr 1100 and an Arai Chaser. I know these are mid-range models, but both are great lids. The Shoei is lighter than the Arai. I'd imagine the others are just better ventilated and possibly slightly different composites. I've had a few AGV's in the past and was never impressed with them. Cannot speak on X-litem as I have never owned one. Pin lock is essential whatever you buy I reckon
I was always an Arai fan, but I have been using a Shoei X-Spirt 2 for the last year for racing and it is superb. The visor mechanism is leagues ahead of the Arai, the fit and ventilation are second to none. The only area where it does fall down on slightly is wind noise, however ear plugs can get around this no problem. Overall I would give it a BIG thumbs up.
Scorpion exo1000 or newer exo2000! Exo1000 won awards for its class and spanked the helmets that were an extra £150+. At £270-310 the exo1000 is an awesome buy and at £375ish the Exo2000 is very similar in style to Shoei XR1100. I believe you are seeing more and more pro riders wearing Scorpion helmets these days
Shoei xspirit 2 from me, very comfy and well made but I have not tried anything else recently so can't compare to other makes
Exactly the same.... Just moved over the the dark side. Arai's all the way until recently but the pods were properly winding me up!! So bought (is that correct sinewave) an x-spirit 2 recently and love it. Just as comfy, lighter better vented and the visor is really wide for great vision. Wind noise is worse but ultimate ear sorts that out and I don't like the clunky visor motion, but I do like no pods and the mechanics of it. Looks alright too IMO And I love the removable chin and nose guard, really good feature.... Can't knock the arai for anything other than pods but they were properly fcuking me off! Lol
there aint many bad helmets out there with the gold acu badge on, agv ti tech cracking helmet for price/you pay for arai, shoei for status symbol, all do the same job to a reason/go with what feels comfortable not looks or price
Leather head? No thanks, I'll stick with my Nexx XR1R Carbon. They've updated them for 2014 also Nexx XR2 Carbon - Nexx Helmets | Motorcycle Helmets | ForMotorbikes
Now I got a few more to look at. My Matt black shark I have found really attracts the heat when hot. So will be keeping away from dark colour. next looks cool and again would also be interested to her what h GT air is like as I know a few have them
Your choice should be down to whether you have an 'Arai' head or a 'Shoei' head or whatever other manufacturer falls in to these two camps. Arai is made for more rounder heads whereas the Shoei design suits more oval heads (front to rear that is!) I use the Shoei X-Spirit 2 below, especially as I got a £600 lid for £365 due to it being painted in a Dead Mans Colours! Agree about the noise being a bit worse than the quitest lids but this lid is aimed at Racers so fit, ventilation and overall performance takes precedence over noise. The GT Air is quiter and a better touring lid, it has a built in Sun Visor is cheaper than the X-Spirit 2 plus, as a 'Brucie Bonus' it matches a MY12 HRC to a T!
Used to think along those lines mate, but I'm well happy with the fit of my shoei despite having and having no issues with my arai. They are both fine fit wise? Hjc, schuberth, bell, and about 3 other brands I tried on didn't feel as good as my new or old lid. Know few others that use both brands too. Think it's all down to each lid, size and fit. Put me off shoei in the past (others I tried didn't like) but think you shouldn't rule it out completely.
See this is where helmets get confusing. I'd heard that it was the other way round. I've got a rugby ball for a bonce and I wear an Arai. Only helmet I could get that fit right.
My mates just bought that carbon/white nexx lid and hes well pleased with it,picked it up for £190 too
I pretty much feel when it comes to helmets you can't beat hitting up a big superstore place or show and just work your way through the racks till you find the best fitting models, then use the model info to track down a design you like in that range n go with that. Think a shoei gt air will be my next lid, fits my noggin really well n liked the built in sun specs! Miss flip specs from old lid as it was best of both worlds specially when hittin tunnels or dusk.
I know what you mean i have the hopkins rep arai and kawasaki fleece and bumped into some fcuker wearing the same get up,was the quickest cuppa ever
