Anyone here have any issue getting their bike through an MOT without having a reflector on the tail tidy?

Mine's due imminently and in previous years it passed without one when going through the dealer's MOT garage of choice, but I'm going to a new place this time and wondered if I should get something to stick on somewhere, for peace of mind? Does anybody do the same to get theirs through the MOT?

I haven't got one on the Blade and never have any issues...I think as long as the bike is obviously well looked after and all other areas are ok the MOT tester is going to be more likely to not nit-pick over a reflector..
At the end of the day they rely on good word of mouth for trade...bust someone who has a first class bike for not having a reflector isn't going to do future customer relations much good...IMO

Yup. Depends where you go. My previous bike had no reflector after I fitted an undertray. My previous MOT place suddenly charged me for a reflector, after going there year on year for 4 years without any problems.

The important words in that last sentence are "previous MOT place". I don't go there any more. The new place I've just taken the blade to didn't say anything about it not having a reflector :)

Your bike must have a rear reflector by law for the MOT you've been lucky in the past if it has been passed without, I've got a 22mm round one stuck to my small and legal size plate and had no problems passing mot's

Yeah I've heard of places sticking them on temporarily for the purpose of getting it through the test, which is what I suspect my dealer does before the send it to the MOT place.

Any recommendations for el-cheapo reflectors I can buy prior to mine going in will be gratefully received!

There's is a very valid view that a vehicle (Car or Bike) that has permanent daytime running lights which cannot be switched off should not require a rear reflector.

However the Ministry of Transport would counter argue a reflector is also there for a safety reason should said vehicle be parked up at night on an unlit road.

Full mot with lights reflector should be visible . Daytime / no lights fitted at time of test mot no reflector required but can't be left or ridden on a public after dark / dusk

The mot law is changing in October regarding number plates, one of the new things is the plate must be free of extras ie reflectors, only two bolts, no slogans and obviously the correct size and font there are a few other changes too, all to do with having no tax discs after 1st October 2014

Funny U should mention that Maz!

Was in Crewe Honda not long back and mentioned they seemed to have a ruck on the shelf and they were all at top dollar prices which seemed strange to me being as they would be obsolete in a few months?

The expression of 'realisation' was rather amusing! :p
