Just purchased an R&G tail tidy for my 07 blade. I have removed the heatsheild but now there seems to be an unsightly gap between the tail section and the silencer. As per the picture. The pipe is an Acropovic. Has anybody had this before and suggest any fix? I am not sure I want to be bending the pipe itself? Ideas would be appreciated? Cheers in advance
Snap! I have the same Akra on my RR7, although I have Evotech tail tidy, I have the same unsightly gap, see pics under my profile. The root cause is because the Akra is designed to be fitted with all the OE shields and trims left in place and therefore the exhaust strap is so made to allow the room for the OE bits. I have toyed with bodging the strap by drilling new mounting holes but as the exhaust only needs to move up a couple of centimetres I dont think I could get away with it (old and new holes would possibly be too close together). I wonder if a new exhaust strap could be bought or made up?
I did toy with adjusting the straps but like you I thought it might not acheive a big enough movement. The trouble is, the easy solution of bending the exhaust "slightly" might not lift the silencer in a level fashion. Aside from the fact I risk possibly crushing the bore. I have temporarily put the smaller heatshield behind the light back in, but without the bigger shield there is no exact fitment so that dosnt look great either.
There is no way you could bend that exhaust... I think to do so would be dangerous. The only solution is to shorten the "drop" on the main exhaust strap I would think. I've included a pic of the strap, hopefully one of the master bodgers/fabricators on here could lend a suggestion.
I have the same issue and it looks ugly,,,so much I've put my stock one back on....Mmmmm peace and quite. If you shorten the hight of the bracket to fit snugly under the tail the can will move linear outwards and look even more feckin ugly....
^ I disagree... to move the can upwards the whole system will have to pivot about the headers... although in actual fact there is easily enough play in the various joints to accomodate the movement. If anything the can will be infinitesimally less sticky out. My mates idea was to find a suitable material to plug the current mounting holes with and araldite the plugs in. Then hopefully new holes could be drilled a 10-15mm further down and it wouldn't matter if new/old holes overlapped... sounds good in theory but as it'll cost £50 to buy a new strap, I dont have the balls to try it.
Sounds like no easy solution if I stick with the akra. If I cant live with it I can always change the exhaust. Iam fairly sure the akra is worth a fair bit so I could always straight swap for an arrow or maybe some cash in and yoshi. The akra does sound fantastic though.........
Could there be that amount of gap to stop the silencer melting the undertray? If you must raise the silencer, could you fit a short adapter to the linkpipe to raise the can and linkpipe section by the required amount. Pictures of your set up would help. Oh by the way , I am not a bodger. I am an engineer/fabricator !!!
With the distance required there is no need to extend the link pipe... I have tried it without the strap on and it fits and looks great. The reason for the gap is coz the Akra is designed to be fitted with the ugly OE shield, plate hanger and plastic side trims in place. Other cans, such as the Scorpion, are designed such that you remove the OE stuff, fit a tail tidy, and line the underside with heat reflective material... and it therefore fits much snugger to the underside without the unsightly gap.
I dont think it would melt the rear section as so much of the can is exposed to open air and I have seen lots of other blades with it tucked right up.. I will post up some more pictures tomorrow when its light as I dont have a light in my garage and u can see what u think.
