I wonder if the great minds on this site can help me ? last night whilst giving the bike a bit of a clean and prep for fitting some techspec gripster pads I noticed my tank is beginning to look quite bad particularly in the area between my tank protection and the fuel filler cap, I suspect this is my leathers rubbing on the tank when I tuck down behind the screen, I also have the two clear patches down on the base of the tank as I noticed this was beginning to mark up quite badly when I first got the bike, this is probably due to me "tank shagging" I make a conscious effort not to get so close to the tank nowadays and the gripsters should help that further, however I do occasionally find myself right up on it.

Looking for suggestions to protect the top area ( non Honda tank protection ?) and something to replace the clear patches please, any help or suggetions would be most appreciated :)

I've got the venture shield kit on mine, with the Honda tank pad on top of that. The venture shield goes considerably higher than the tank pad.

I have had a problem too with the area between the top of the tank protection and the fuel cap, like you, caused when tucked in.

I brought another set of identical tank protection pads. I removed the top two sections from the tank, I then added 3 of the new sections to the tank so that it comes up higher up the tank.

Not as good as the above suggestions, but so far it has done the job and I am not marking the top of the tank anymore.

Yip venture shield here too with a carbon tank pad on top.
The tank kit is not too expensive either around £40 inc del.

I got my full kit from these guys who were slightly cheaper than anyone else I could find online.
    1000 bike paint protection

The tanks really easy to fit too and there is not any big angles or big depressions to stretch the stuff into.
Comes in 3 parts the main centre piece that goes where the tank pad is now and two side pieces that go where stomp grip goes.

I've got the venture shield fitted and the standard Honda tank pad hasn't moved or creased the venture shield so I can't see you having a problem with techspec gripsters. I had some venture shield replaced on the screen fairing - the guy who replaced it used a steam wallpaper stripper to get it off so it really does stick well at normal temperatures.

I have honda tank pad and stompgrip pads fitted on top of Ventureshield,no problems.
Just make sure you give the Ventureshield time to dry before fitting pads,24hr at least to be safe.
