this this their next move for 2013 few racers were sharing this on facebook. what a stupid move as some Irish roads races rely on onboard cams to get the majority of the footage.
Phantom is this a joke ? If not then what is the reason behind this ? And what about the north west 200 it can't be true ? Can it ?
well some racers are saying its insurance and copyright others say they havent heard but a call to some at mcui says yes its for real. if it is real then what the hell are they thinking
Was no mention on the site as yet but I see the race application For this year's nw200 has underlined you are not allowed on board cameras Unless okayed in writing by the clerk of the course
I was told it has something to do with footage of fatal accidents etc leaking onto the net with the consent of persons related to the victim, more likely rights to footage by TV companies etc... wonder what the real reason is?
Mentioned this on the CB1000r forum and got this response, thought I would share 'Onboard Cameras are not banned they have to be fitted and scrutinised for safety. The clerk of course has to be informed you have it and it has to be insured for 3rd party liability insurance. The big Tv companys will be ok, the rule is for the local racer just sticking it on his bike.'
well from what the racers that I have spoke to were saying that they were getting refused permission to fit them by said clerks.heard about the third party insurance thing but who would you approach to get insurance for a camera on a road race bike if the clerk did give you permission? and a lot of the action footage the TV companies show is from the local guys camera's as very few bikes are fitted with TV company camera's.maybe nw200, ugp, cookstown and the TT but tv companies dont even show up at half the other races and its supporters and racers that film it themselves to make the DVD's they sell.
. However they must be provided by approved operators who must be able to show that they have Public Liability Insurance Cover of a minimum of £2,000,000.00 which has now been agreed after discussion with our Insurers. Basically means all your go pros and drift cameras that are not supplied By tv companies are banned.i know racers that have been told no cameras Unless fitted by the tv companies and they also have all rights to footage.
