Car insurance up for renewal, letter through post from Hastings 189 quid. Right then lets go on confused.com.
Cheapest £146 Halifax with Hastings coming in at £164.
Right lets phone them to cancel as policy is on auto renewal, after hours on hold I'm through. "My name is Alan how can I help you today?"
"Want to cancel my policy renewal."
    "Why's that sir?"
Explained the prices to him including their £164 quote and what do you know!!! They can now do it for £148, bit of a result for me but every year it the same old dance I go through, why oh why can't they just give you a cheap price from the start or is it because with the auto renewal system people just let it go and don't bother looking for a better price or find out too late and are going to get charged £25 cancellation fee so stick with them.
    Rent over sorry!

The auto-renewal scheme that insurers use is a con. They should be forced to give you an option to not have it when you take out the policy.
