Hi, so got my new Blade. Well happy apart from having only done 570 miles the paint has worn off the tank where you Leathers touch. Hunts Manchester are putting a warranty claim in for it but wondered if anyone else had seen this problem on the Black / Gold? Also what's the best cover / protection to stop it happening again please? Ta G
The knee protection on my Rukka arma-s trousers is so tough I expect it could grind diamonds, it's not a great combo with shiny paint.
Mine dulled in a week due to leathers rubbing. I got the hrc tank pad and some Techspec tank grips to protect it. If you polish it then wax it, it will come up like brand new, but will happen again unless you cover it with above items, or venture shield. Mines done 8k now, and paint is as good as new, I just wax and polish every time I take it out.
Hi just wearing my 3 years old Alpinestars. Habe used them on my ZX6r and ZX10r albeit with metal tanks and never had this issue! Paints actually gone right through to white plastic on the left!

John is a good dude at Hunts see if he will swop the tank or better still see if you can get a deal for Venture Shield .I have had 2 blades from Hunts and each one has had it fitted prior to delivery .John has an account as they are only in Golborne so they are in every month.
Yeah I'm not a fan either. Techspec looks a bit better but prefer neither. But both have their uses to cover ruined or scratched paint, a fine cutting compound and polish is my friend.
Ive had Ventura shield fitted to mine from the off mate and would highly recommend it. I didn't know that the tank cover was white underneath though. I had a slight off at the beginning of last year and I managed to polish out a scuff on my rear cowl just by using 2000grit and a DA polisher.
I'm kind of thinking that due to the legendary Honda quality why should I then have to cover parts up. I did ask one of the Hunts guys about it (Andy the spanner man, he was also telling me built dunlops no.2 engine had out at 200 bhp at the back wheel....) anyway he reckons its due to the Honda not using chemical based paints its all water based and it never hardens. So do I keep claiming each time or cover it up at my cost?
Have it covered at the dealers cost or honda's or tell them to keep a large stock of tank covers in as you'll be having a new one each time it happens. Fit for purpose and all that!
R yip bloody eu directives are spoiling everything might be good for the planet but no good for our bikes or cars eh, totally agree with you bud soft as shi-e and so annoying! I had mine venture shielded from new and am so glad I did as I bet she'd be looking a bit naff by now and it's not a year old. Bring back the good old days eh.
On my RR8 the paint on the tank would flatten pretty quickly, but as mentioned above it always seemed to polish up just fine. Not based on any facts here, but in my opinion the paint on the new 2012 blade seems to look better quality, i recall the VFR having a somewhat improved paint finish too. Anyone know if they've taken steps to improve things in this area?
My boss actually managed to get Volkswagen to give him a new car when it turned out the aqueous paint used on his brand new Edition 30 Golf was of uneven thicknesses over the shell after going in for a car park ding. At the time there was a ridiculously few number of them available in the UK, but in fairness, they sucked it up and replaced the car.
We have touched on this in previous threads and as i remember i stated the a couple of years ago i Bought for 21k a new Honda Type R in Red . Within 6 months the front and sides looked like a birds egg and i got the same old tale from Honda regarding EU rules on paint bear in mind i only drove it once and its main use was taking Elaine to work and back hardly any motorway work so we changed it to a Citroen DS3 and now the same mileage and the bodywork has not got a mark .Strange but true and no i would not have another Honda Car.
I agree that the loss of the planet destroying chemicals that make paint hard is a bad thing, all these water based paints are just pants.
