Thinking of getting my wheels powder coated white, has anyone had their wheels done, is it easy to strip for coating e.g. removing the bearings etc Thanks in advance
Haven't any personal experience, but my mate who has the mechanical aptitude of a used tea bag, stripped his off the tuono and rebuilt with no prob.
Only thing I am unsure of is the bearings, how easy are they to remove, can it be done without damaging them, do I need replacements etc etc
Haven't worked on bikes for years, but don't imagine they changed that much. Thing with bearings is when you remove them you nearly always use a bearing puller, which pulls on the inner ring. This DOES cause slight damage. For the cost of bearings they are worth replacing. When fitting, you can press them in, some people tap the outer ring to fit them, using an aluminium drift, but always tap the outer ring and work from opp. ends to keep it straight. You could tap the old one out using the same method, tapping the inner but again, a bearing pulling tool doesnt have to cost the earth. Had to edit twice! Having 2 conversations at once
Hammer, cup of tea, hammer, bacon sarnie, hammer, Bottle of beer..... i reckon if you follow those guidelines exactly youll be just fine PS - let me know how that works out as i need to do mine as well and havent a clue
Dealer I got the bike off will remove the tyres and bearings and refit + balance for £35, so guess that will be easier for me price to powder coat both wheels white £80 so not to bad ?? what you think
when i had my little cbr400rr, i wanted to get the wheels done orange as they were black, (it was a repsol paint job on it), dave took the wheels and bits off in just a few minutes , then we took the wheels to local tyre fitter who removed the tyres, ten took the wheels to a company in gosport who did a wicked job on powder coating them for me. £80 was what i paid to get mine painted orang xx
Do you have anyone in mind for doing the powder coat JamieHRC? not that im about to recomend one, but i too have a few little jobs for the powder coat man
I am going to use AC powder coating in yeovil, my friend had a swing arm done for his RC8 and it was a top quality job but mainly because they are local to me and I can drop off and pic up rather than posting them AC Powder Coatings Limited
If you're not confident spannering yourself, let someone else who knows what they're doing, er, do it. That price mate, I wouldn't grumble.
Well the wheels are off, stripped down and now at the powder coaters So I hope it will look good with gloss white wheels or have I made a terrible mistake ? Pics to follow in a week or so as they are snowed under at the moment
