Going next Tues, see here http://1000rr.co.uk/trackdays/8396.htm to Donny and has anyone done this track? If so any tips? this will be my first time on track at Donny I will be or course taking my time to get to know the circuit but thought it was worth asking for some advice before going
Done it once, and it's bloody great. Only circuit specific advice i can offer is craners, it will suck you wide on the left hand off camber bit, but once you build confidence with the correct entry line and available grip, you will fly. Shwantz curve can be taken much quicker than you think. And coppice, coppice is awesome at speed, you have to turn in before you actually see the second blind apex. You have to commit, but once you know where it is, it will still be there lap after lap! Lol. ( i think my mate expected it to have moved, he just wouldn't turn in til he saw it). Enjoy.
Cramer curves lovely and you can take the I think it's called the old hairpin quicker than you think coppice as said above nice quick corner and blind onto the second part really good corner after you have done it a few times . Your braking will get later and later down the straight into foggy esses . Wish I was there have a cracking day
only track day i done was at donny but not the full circuit even though it was advertised as such when we booked. awesome track and day and that was on an old zx9r. have fun!!
well it could take some time to explain the whole circuit and i'm at work atm but will post up a generall idea when i get home. have a look at this vid of me to give you an idea where it goes and lines (although they are off at times).
Cracking vid that mate. Brings back fond memories. I love donny, easy to learn too. About 4 minutes in i spotted a guy who was all twisted and in the wrong position for cornering. Then i saw he had his left arm missing. Top bloke!!
dont blow up the hire van, have a nightmare, fcuk around with your bike beforehand, do a stuttering sighting lap, strip the bike, scratch head, put bike back together, load up a new hire van and drive home with the hump! have a good one dude. from what i saw, the track is immense...
Great place, you'll love it... as I said on Si's track days tips thread.... Nothing worse than being sat in pit lane, hot and sunny, in Spain, with £42,000.00 D16RR Sat on 17" slicks with OZ wheels, tyre warmers cooking....... and no keys......lol Hey Dave?
ok,heres a basic, not too in depth guide.(no piont going into the finer details until you have an idea of the track) 1st things 1st,donny is a very smooth, fast flowing track that takes a some bottle(and a little faith at times). 1 st turn,on pit exit theres a blue triangle, use this as your braking marker, through the day it will move further up as you faster/more confident, stay as wide as poss, even touching the pit exit lane, theres a white line across the track, this is roughly your tip in point. once apexed, coming out theres a square of tarmac, you want to be going somewhere near that on exit. you can then power on quite hard going into the next turn(hollywood) which is has 2 sets of curbs,i tend to miss the 1st,then on the 2nd curb start your turn into craner (this is a corner that takes some bottle and faith in your front end). as you exit craner, power on hard as poss coming into the old hairpin, this is quite a cambered corner so can carry more speed than you think.this is a very good place to pass if you get a good exit out of craner. exiting old hairpin is hard power right through the next 2 turns, starkeys bridge+schwantz (seems to be 1 if done right).kissing the curb on the outside of schwantz, start ti pick the bike up for mccleans, again, faster than you think. go up the little rise into coppice, now, this corner catches more out than anywhere else,as you come up the rise,as soon as you see the curb on the right start to turn,yu cant see the corner yet though (this is where a bit of faith comes in).going around coppice be patient, hit the 2nd curb then hard power, drifting out to the outside heading down to foggy s's. going into foggy, touch 1 st curb, then on exit you want to really just go over the 2nd curb as theres a big dip on the apex. hardest braking point now going into melboune loop,it's down hill aswell so takes a bit longer to stop.be carefull coming out as a lot high side here. then(and for me the worst corner) goddards,i have no tips for this corner as for the life of me can never get it right lol. then onto start/finish straight.pull the biggest wheelie you can waving at everyone on pitwall
