As some of you know I'm hopefully joining the family soon. Question, how do you ABS guys get on with your bikes? I've picked up on a couple of discussions regarding some not so good feeling and spongy feeling brakes at times. Is this a common thing and just the ABS doing its job? I know how a car feels when it cuts in and its awful, although it's obviously still doing a good job of trying to save your arse. Opinions welcome.
I've never had a problem with mine,had it 2 years now and flawless,although I don't think I've been careless enough to activate the ABS yet. Love the combined brakes,so much stopping power and no risk of locking up.
It does not judder or pulse like a cars ABS, its smooth I think it's great, I can brake so hard I can't even push my body back and no fear of locking up I've never ridden a non ABS and and used full anchor but the brakes are meant to be great as well
Very simple answer OP. If you feel you are the type of rider that will benefit from /or need ABS, then buy an ABS. If you are happy to be in full control of braking yourself, do not consider anything other than non ABS. I never considered the above question before I bought an ABS Blade, as it never crossed my mind, owning one changed my views.
I've had 2 now with the c abs and touch wood no problems at all with it. I've had to grab a handful of brake on quite a few occasions including dropping a boll#ck moments into a corner& its done perfectly what it says on the tin. Maybe it would have been same result with non abs, I don't know, but I like it personally
Have had my ABS blade from new - now two years old. No problems at all. I probably wouldn't get a bike without it tbh.
Ok sweet thanks peeps. Seems the issues are probably something of nothing as expected. RRoss you metion linked brakes, is this an abs only thing or are both models linked. This I did not realise. Thought that unlikely on a super sport bike and thought it was normally the bigger cruisers that had those.
I have just bought a 2012 with ABS, not ridden too much yet but the brakes feel very strong, will be fitting D211GP's with a 55 profile rear soon, will report back
Yeah it's only combined on the C-ABS models. I like the way it balances the bike when braking hard without risking locking up the rear. It allows you to trail the rear brake but if you stamp hard enough on the pedal the nose will drop as the front brakes kick in.
It feels wrong the first time you try it, very weird feeling! It's nice to know it works the other way around as well, often on the road I don't even touch the rear brake but it still comes on
Nevr ridden an ABS bike yet and with all the problem I hear about the Honda system, I wouldn't have one, I have done loads of track days and never thought "damn, I wished I'd had ABS just then", so won't bother until all bikes are fitted standard, and then I will have to, but hope by then all the pproblem have been sorted http://1000rr.co.uk/threads/loss-of-brake-in-corner.26485/#post-379637
I purchased my 2015 Blade with No ABS, I just didn't want to risk spoiling what is otherwise a great bike. I can only imagine the panic that would come as you approach a corner when you need to slow down, and the lever going straight back to the grip with no braking at all ! ! ! ! No, I'll stick with NON ABS until Honda use a difference system to that fitted at the moment. Admittedly, it doesn't appear to affect every ABS equipped blade, but imagine if you were one of the unlucky ones........................ Confidence in the bike would be totally shot.
i got 2015 without abs and love it , i like to be in control , had a 2010 cbr600rr without too no probs love cbr's
Haha bit of controversy not sure if their demo blade has it, but I have it for an hour sat so will see. Would of liked it for longer really so I could have a proper ride out at their expense hehe
Try some slow riding in traffic and a bit of filtering, where on and off braking is constantly used, these situations seem to produce the fault in some of the ABS bike, but it appears to be totally random as to which bike it affects. Some owners report no problems at all, others are trying desperately to get Honda to accept that there are issues with the system, and its a dangerous issue.
Well I road tested the blade today. It didn't have ABS but I was confident enough in peoples opponions that it was a good thing to have. So I placed my order and specced it with ABS. The brakes were very good still on the demo bike and I'm very confident that I will be pleased with my decision. Thank you for your advice
