Horrid story but could have been worse. My feeling is that there is to little info to go on and would the jail sentence include mental health help as she may need it.
8 years in a gulag - about right. She'd have got more for exceeding 140 m.p.h. on an empty 3 lane motor way here in the land of justice and fairness.
