Evening folks, can somebody with access to the Honda parts catalogue or similar please tell me if the top yoke on a 2012/13 model is the same as that fitted to the earlier models, 2008-2011. I installed an ABM bar kit about 2 years ago which has been awesome and I'd like to transfer it across to my newbike when I upgrade, thanking you in advance !
Thanks Si, I appreciate the quick reply ! I thought it would be only cosmetic differences if anything. Luckily I had the opportunity to do a bit of sneaky tape measure work down at the stealers today but that was only a rough check... I shall start saving my pennies up !
Can anyone confirm that please ??? The top of my forkleg (2009 bike) is about 48mm in diameter, can someone give me the diameter of the BPF fitted to 2012/13 models ??? Ta !
Clipons for the blade are 50mm IIRC and don't think that there are a version for 08-11 and 12-13. they fit both but willing to be corrected on this one!
That's what it looks like to me Si, ran my tape over a showroom blade today and the forks look the same diameter (approx. 50mm), I'll need to measure them more accurately but the dealers don't like you doing that sort of thing ! I thought I read somewhere that the forks were a straight swap which would confirm what we think ? I have just Emailed ABM for confirmation but it's a German site so God knows if I'll get an answer back !
Interested in any info about the ABM conversion, Buckmeister. If you have any photos or comments as to how easy it is to fit, what needs changing (brake lines, clutch cable etc) and how it works for clearance with the fairing I'd really appreciate it. Thanks
Thanks guys ! Here you go... 636carlos's Library | Photobucket I originally bought this kit, which I have to say is quality, from www.coolncomfy.co.uk / Home - Cool n Comfy: Superbike performance - Touring comfort. (speak to Matt). It cost me around £300 shipped and I had him anodise it satin black as they only came in silver back then. I got new brake lines & fittings, top yoke & risers, thick wall 22mm bars, new clutch cable and all the bits and bobs you need to fit it. The only 3 things I found I needed were a set of Renthal bar ends (£13), a 14mm drill bit to open up the hole in the ends of the bars for the bar ends and I had to fab a small bracket up to hold my brake fluid reservoir (about 10 mins and a bit of odd stainless). It's pretty straightforward but you really need some engineering ability (my job !) but it's not rocket science ! They will fit the kit for a fee too but I didn't fancy a 200 mile ride to Preston for that really ! You will have to "trim" your fairing but that's fairly easy (if a bit scary), I taped it up and used a dremmel with a small cut off disc. It looks fu*king awful after you cut it but a small block of wood and varying grades of emery cloth soon sorts that out. It's hardly noticeable on my bike and I haven't painted the edge, it's the best £300 I've ever spent on a bike and I can ride all day with no pain anywhere. We regularly do 300 - 500 miles a day on our summer Euro trips and it's no problem for me. I really had to do this mod as I had a neck injury a few years ago which meant clip-ons were a no go for me ! Any questions let me know, sorry but the pics ain't the best, I'll look for some more...
Oh, if you want to know what it feels like go sit on a CB1000r at the dealers, it's pretty much identical but my bars are about 1-1.5 inches wider ! My bike is also noticeably lighter than that bike too !
Thanks for the posts Buckmeister, I think you've answered all of my questions but if I think of any more I'll be in touch. I'll try to give this a go through the winter. Keith
Good luck Keith, it's not so bad once you fire into it trust me. There'll be some tricky bits but take your time and contact me here if you get stuck, mine's in the garage so I can always pop out and take a few pics for you. Got an Email today from ABM Germany (in proper English too !) and they confirm that the kit fits all years, 2008-2013, so no issues there ! They also do kits for older blades and other manufacturers, "CoolnComfy" are their UK importer but I believe they have all the relevant CAD data from ABM and now manufacture the yokes etc at their place near Preston.
