Thought I'd finally post some photos and a brief write up of my solo trip around the Alps last September. I know you lot like photos, so there are plenty of em! Long story short I had a few extra weeks off work last year and embarked on a 4 week trip through France, Italy and Switzerland, starting off from my base here in Catalunya. I couldn't recommend September any better for a month to go to the Alps. Holiday traffic gone, quiet roads, less Police presence, cheaper hotels/camping, and the weather was still glorious. In nearly 4 weeks I didn't have a drop of rain. Bloody lucky! I had planned a similar trip 4 or 5 years ago whilst I was still living in the UK, but the electrics on my Daytona 675 didn't agree with a rain storm just as we entered into Switzerland from Germany, regulator/rectifier fried. This was on a friday afternoon, didn't get back on the road until the Wednesday, not amused. (Triumph UK were first rate I might add in doing everything they could to get me going again. The bike was 3 months out of warranty, but they still sent the required part UPS over night, free of charge. I was impressed with the service at least!) So I bought just the bike for the job and had another crack at it a year ago. Needless to say there were no break downs. When I get a chance I'll write up the rest………... Day 1. The misery of the motorway! Headed to the south of France to tick of the Gorges du Verdon.
nice one mike that was some mileage on your own .i wanted to go and do the alps on me own next week but gary ste and jase decided to come and look after me or did they ask me because they want some one to do there washing
Cbr1 Yeah it was some milage, 4000! sometimes its great being on your own. Go where you want, at the pace you want, etc. But then its good to haves mates with you too, to share those "fuck! how good was that" moments. Swings and roundabouts. Once in a life time trip that one. It was amazing. Don't think I'll get 4 weeks again to do that. Not sure the wife would sanction it again! Sweet memories. Where are you guys heading? Have a great trip mate!
were am I heading ? mike to be honest I haven't got a clue lol am going on a magical mister tour with gary and jase and ste but am buzzing. like your self something wanted to do for many years cant stop looking at all the vids and photos you lot keep put up but I know gary will be doing a spot on report for all to see as we go and as we are there .
Mike that was some trip, roads and scenery looks stunning. Awsome mate. You mention September is a good time to go, seeing snow in some of the pictures how cold is it ?
bradt September was good weather wise. A little fresh up high, but not cold. Neck gator was ideal to have though. Early snow came while i was in the Dolomites one night, but mostly melted off by the end of the day.
Some fantastic shots there Mike. Thanks for allowing us a peek into your epic trip. FTR. CBR1 may think he's going to the Alps? But we're actually heading your way & doing the Pyrenees. Bless him
