well apart from taking the S1000rr to Germany in 2014...... to sachsenring but this one will involve "other half" to tour south of france this summer decided to go for a ducati multistrada or a BMW GS1200.....will be test riding both during next couple of weeks..... Anyone had the above ? hints and tips would be appreciated along with any decent scenic routes around there ?
Route napolean is a must, castellane and gorge de verdun is stunning mate.... Lovely place to stop and explore. Also try a triumph explorer.... Bruce is raving about his Personally I'd get he multi.... For a bit more of a sporty ride
it ll be a difficult one Jimbo..........missus hasn't been pillion for a very long time....... her arse is my priority !! lol
As it should be Pm me your email buddy, got some route links on google maps you can have a look at let me know how many days etc and ace mileage I know some decent routes down
Just seen this - I would highly recommend to stay in Bourg St.Maurice and then go up via Val D'isere (stop for photos by the huge wooden Ducati) and then over the Col D'Iseran and then overnight in Briancon. From there I would work your way to Barcelonette then down to Castelane which is a great little town to base yourself in for a few nights - it can get tiresome moving on each day after a while. You can have a day out to the gorge verdun as Jimbo mentioned, and also a day to the South of France sea front. Its then the Route Napolean back up (that's how I would do it anyway) - you want the Route de Grand Alps as a guide.
Agree with Jimbo, got to be the Route Napoleon 183 miles of total awesomeness. Done it 2013 nothing done since has lived up to it...
I'm doing it (again) next month on the way to Mugello. Weather permitting I'll be doing St Malo to Mugello avoiding toll roads so giving myself plenty of time to play.
Worth a look at the Vosgues too - Le Grand Ballon, etc. Have a read of this, lots of other good routes www.ride.co.uk/routes/
Nice clean example by the looks of it. Just a reminder that it can get very hot in the South of France, in the summer. Also it gets busy in the main tourist areas, during the French school holidays. I have many times turned up at a campsite to be told full, or to be squeezed in, or given a pitch for only one night as it will be occupied the next day - stuff like that. Never had to sleep in the street though - but just not always guaranteed to rock up and have first choice, sometimes have to move on to the next choice, until you get something. Have fun, it will be great !
Jimbo, I’m think about heading over to Europe this summer on the blade for about a weeks’ worth of touring. I have seen on other posts that you have offered some information on possible routes etc. and tips here and there. Any chance I could pick your brain for some ideas as this will be my first tour into Europe on the bike?
