So guys ive bought a beemer to tour around on with she who must be obeyed. We have always fancied to have a look around the dales etc. what do you recommend regards routes places to see and accommodation? fairly vague I know but lets just see what you come up with.
The Yorkshire Dales is a fabulous place to ride around. How long have you planned to stay oop norf Steve? Depending on time/milage your easily accessible to the Lake District and Scottish Borders taking in some stunning views & roads.
To be completely honest gary im not quite sure,i have never been up to the savage north but have heard that there is a lot of good riding scenery etc. I will be riding a bmw r1100 rs so obviously I don't want to be going down dirt tracks. I will probably go for the self catering option so if anyone knows of some good ones let me know. 7 to 10 days duration
skipton upto the lakes is a good run through settle,hawes,Kirkby lonsadale,Kendal.then upto to shap and the over to the east,or straight up into Scotland.
Been riding around the Dales for 20+ years so know it quite well. As has been mentioned, Kirkby Lonsdale is a good choice. Beautiful scenery with a delightful setting next to the River Lune. Fantastic village if you like mooching around quaint shops with some amazing cafes and eateries. Also there's the famous Devil's Bridge bike meet a short walk from the village. As you would imagine all roads leading to it are "bike designed"! Take a trip through Sedbergh (another quaint village) towards Hawes, where there's a cheese factory to visit (Wensleydale to be precise), The Chippy at Hawes......best chips on the planet! As well as being another bike meeting place it's a bustling farming community loaded with charm and character. There's Aysgarth Falls a few miles up the road heading East. White Scar Caves at Ingleton, Ingleton Falls, Ribblehead Viaduct. A camera is a must as all these places are extremely picturesque! Lots of places to stay in these parts, hotels, b+b's, camping barns. If you visit sykescottages.co.uk you'll find holiday cottages (self catering) to rent with prices around £200-300 per week, making an excellent base from which to explore. Yeah and he can hustle through there with the best of em - so make sure you take plenty of man up pills before a roller coaster ride! Lol.... We had a blast going up and coming back from Scotland with Steve!
Agree with you dude The Firebloke is like a big old mountain Goat and knows ever crevice on them old potholed tracks .
Spent many happy holidays in the Dales, even to the point where I was able to understand what they where saying One of my favorite stop over hotels is the White Bear in Masham, nice accomo and great beer and food.
the book "bikers britain" has loads of good routes in it , we did scotland last year and tied in with using the winding roads app on tom tom mobile we did some brilliant roads.
Manor Cafe is good to visit, as are the breweries , also things like Fountains Abbey and Aysgarth Falls for some 'off bike' time You can also to the Buttertubs pass the Tour D'France did this year and as others said Scottish Borders for a night in the middle of your break would allow you to see so much more.
Hi Steve just picked up on this thread.....the Peak District national park is on route to Yorks & has some cracking roads along with scenery & popular biker places like Matlock and Cat & Fiddle, I can forward you a round route taking it in that won't swallow up a lot of your time just let me know I'm also a yorkshire born lass..so let me know if you need a translator
Matlock on a Sunday is an absolute must!! Agree matlocks great cos the everyone from the shops to the tourists love the bikes.....apart from the council....who despite the thousands a quid we bring in unleash the pesky parking wardens as soon as the first sunny day of the biking season arrives!! go figure!! Squires is pretty busy most nights thru summer & has some good events on too
