    Hi all

I have a 280 LWB transit that I use for racing.

I am looking at buying a caravan but I'm confused as to what I can tow legally?

    Unsure of:

A: How much the van weighs either empty or with the bike etc loaded in.
B: Whether or not I can tow over 750kg?
C: What size of caravan would keep me under 3500kg with the bike and everything in the back of the van?

I only did my test 3 years ago so I am limited to a total of 3500kg.

    Please help lol

You would need to go for a traitor test to give you category E on your licence. This would give a car/van licence B + E entitlements marked up on your licence.

This would give you the ability to tow any sized trailer depending on when you got your car/van entitlement.
Before 19th January 2013 any size trailer.
After 19th January 2013 you can tow a trailer with a max authorised mass of 3500kg.

Your current B rating on your licence or at least last time I checked was only allowing you to tow a basic trailer that does not have any brakes fitted and be under the total weight of 750kg.

    A. The vans unloaded and loaded weights will be listed on a sticker or plate often stuck in the drivers door pillar.
    B. Without doing your trailer licence no you can't tow over 750kg and trailer needs to be an unbraked trailer.
    C. This would depend on when your test was originally passed.
