is it wise not to lub a trackbike chain, obviously encouraging massively quicker wear and tear of chain and sprockets? or is it more effective to lub the chain slightly, hopefully avoiding fling off on to the left hand side of the tyre? an issue i feel could churn up loads of different views and opinions.
Don't see why it would be an issue having your chain lubed. Just wipe off the excess and away you go.
as above no reason not too although not as essential as road riding, esp if you dont ride in the wet, just dont go crazy and wipe off any excess
i don't bother with lube on the race bike.. but if you were going to I would be putting very minimal on..
I spoke to a guy from a chain manufacturer a while back who said the chain lube thing is a bit of a myth. He reckons that the chains are pre-lubed inside the links between the o-rings. If you spray lube on the chain it is impossible for it to get inside the link as they are sealed (with the o-rings) and all you are doing is making the surface a bit wet. Therefore you should "ride it dry" ahem... and when the lube stops leaking out of the chain it's empty and there's nothing more you can do. Non-O-ring chains on the other hand. Lube your heart out. Not sure if this is correct but it all seems pretty logical.
