Hi all, been searing high and low for a track bike Budget 3K! I've seen loads no V5's chassis numbers not intact makes me worry. I dont want to buy a dog and find myself in a situation as Lincolnshire Police have been well known to run spot checks at Cadwell. I am going to look at a ZX6 tommorow, apparently bike was shipped from Kawasaki to MSS so there is no V5, chassis number intact and I can apply should I wish. Some of you have been through all this any pointers? Should I only buy a bike with a V5? Some do look stunningly clean but the thought of a CAT B write off.. what damage is under those nice shiney fairings?? Thanks in advance guys
It is a tricky area for sure, but some bikes have had a new frame direct from a manufacturer such as my mates R6 race bike, which had been crashed but a new frame supplied without numbers. I think it is only a problem if the number had been tampered with. Bear in mind that many race/track bikes have been dropped. have a look at this from the ACU which may help. http://www.acu.org.uk/uploaded/documents/Buying-Secondhand---A-Racer's-Guide-v2.pdf
Castrol Craig put something similar together. http://1000rr.co.uk/trackdays/2282.htm I consider myself very fortunate, right place right time I guess. Nothing beats knowledge. Funny, the V5 dropped through the door this morning. Good luck in you search.
There was a 954 went last night for £1550.00 which I was keeping an eye on. A lot of bike for the money for sure.
We sell a few salvage bikes and cat b are meant to have last 4 numbers removed or crossed out not ground off or completely removed . A full reciept of sale would also be given and we would include old bike reg incase of any probes . Blank frames are used for race bikes so I'm sure you would get a reciept with these to keep everything cosher ?
