As there seems to be lots of talk about track bikes, I thought that I would ask the question, has anyone thought of sharing? Just seems an idea to keep the costs down as that's the done thing with stuff like private jets, and although these can be affordable, nobody wants to drop their road bike, but a decent track bike would tie up quite a lot of money for an individual. Feel free to discuss how it would pan out in terms of arrangements, but any existing track bike owner renting it out may also be an option? Thoughts?
I think the idea in principle is fine however it would have to be " with matey" and as such both you and Matey would more than likely want to do the same Trackday which would end in tears due to cost x two booking the day but only riding for half but I am sure someone must do it.
In theory if both parties booked the same trackday then the same bike could be used as long as both riders are in different sessions, although i would advise spare brakes, fuel etc, which should be carried anyway. Just thinking how any arrangements would be made between parties.
I'll keep using my RR5 for the time being, I can't see anymore damage being done than could easily done on uk roads However, when I buy a new bike, if i am not given enough for my RR5, I might keep it and turn into a dedicated track bike, one never knows for now though, roll on Donington plus I would hate to part own a bike, be to worried about dumping it, where as if I screw my own bike, fair enough Simon
As much as i would enjoy ragging my bike round a track even wearing its old fairing, i would feel more at ease throwing an old shed around. Just seems like it would be living on borrowed time, where as you can keep dumping a track bike without fear of losing a shed load of cash as long as you can keep fixing it up on the cheap. On the flip side, i have a -1 front sprocket in the garage doing nothing, just havn't been brave enough to fit it alongside my +2 rear for fear of not being able to keep the front end down
Simon said I can use his RR5 on the track any time I want to now he has a dedicated fairing, didn't you Simon
No problem Carl, you will need to pay for fuel and sign a "Give Simon my Repsol" document for if you dump it then you're good to go mate
