Trackday brakes

    I have a 2011 Repsol blade with 1300 miles on it. I brake with 2 fingers only ( standard lever, span adjuster 2 ) and it stops as required on the road. Did a track day at mallory last week and after a few laps i had the lever pressing onto my throttle fingers. This was severely limiting the pressure i could put into the lever. For the final session i set it at position 1 and it improved.

    Why was i gettting so much reduction in brake at the lever ? I wasnt boiling the brakes, no where near.

    Might not be boiling them but they are doing more . Braided lines help a brembo helps even more . My 2012 has Brembo RCS braided lines Brembo fluid and SBS pads i get little to none brake fade .

    Rubber hoses expand with heat try braided lines if you plan to do more trackdays and move on from there

    I've got braided lines and sbs dual carbon pads, brakes are definitely better than standard.

    That reminds me, nice one Steve good recommendation with SBS.

    Hi there, I did my first trackday on my 08 blade and I had the same issue. I have standard lines and pads. I haven't had the bike long and the fluid is looking a little dark so it may never have been changed.

    Basically by halfway through an open session two hour track night I noticed the lever was coming back to near the bar and its set on 4 on the span setting. Found this really worrying.

    Hoping that initially a fluid change and new upgraded pads might help.

    What kind of pads have you used that have been a marked improvement?????

    Hi mate,

    Think Wedgie has the same as me, SBS. I've gone for the dual carbon, they seem to lack bite at low speed but are awesome at pace especially when you get some heat into the brakes.

    I used them to do a 3000 mile euro trip in rain sun and on the Pyrenees tested them well even when a bird (felt like a eagle) hit me on the helmet while just tipping into a long left looked up and it was gravel time at about 60-70 . Summat to laugh about at next stop lol .

    Oh and read on the site how to bed them in properly bedding them in will make the bite better its needs a nice constant carbon build up on disc . I bed them in on sighting laps just lightly dab the lever and hold on slightly not for long 100m or so this has always worked best for me

    I changed my lines to braided ones before my first track day and brakes seemed very good, so I guess it's your standard lines expanding?

    I need to do something to get this sorted.

    Just for info. I did the same trackday on an Aprilia Falco about 3 years ago. Standard lines (8 year old) and it had some cheaper brand HH rated pads. The bike was thrashed and I can't recall any brake fade at all!!! Go figure.

    Probably oem brembo s on it still better than oem jap stuff . Prilla brakes always been good or your going faster !

    Yes and yes. I always felt the Brembo's the various model Aprilia's I've had have always been very good. The blade is much faster so I am definitely braking much harder.

    For brake fade, 1st thing you do is change to braided hoses. Will fade less wth time as you'll brake less the better you get at track riding... until you start racing... Carbon pads lack bite when cold. Ive seen guys use carbon pads the 1st time and run straight on on the 1st lap. Not recommended for road. I use EBC HH pad, they have a thin backing plate that reduces heat transfer to the caliper and therefore the fluid. Change to uprated fluid wth higher boiling point.. Braking sorted..

    All Honda brake calipers have the backing plate as standard bud

    Yup. That I know.. But some guys turf them wth the old pads. And a follow up question will be "mine doesnt have plates". Since the EBCs came new ones I mentioned them. Other pads Ive tried didnt...

    Sweet I didn't know that no point chucking them stop the heat and squeal but all ebc stuff I've tried has been shite TBH

    Ive used SbS and EBZc back to back. Both felt the same so jst continued wth the EBC .. No worries so far. Have outbraked a couple Panigales in the fast group no sweat.. But will put that down to rider talent :D

    Hahaha.. I said as you get better the less you use 'em... 'Strue..
    the 1st time you use less brake, its heart in the mouth, cheek clenching. The next time its no big deal.. Suppose thats why we wear helmets :D
