How many of you trail the front brake in corners on the road?

Is it faster and safer or best left to the track?

I've just watched a interesting video on Youtube of some dude in the USA who says its transformed his road riding.

    Cheers :)

Thought you trail the rear brake?

Yep , have done if I've gone in to fast , but never in the wet
usually closing the throttle helps pull the bike into the corner or a dab of the rear
I always cover the front brake when riding, ,,,, just in case
In my case its not faster and certainly not safer
Best to get the braking done before the corner

I use the rear a lot if I’ve gone in a little too hot.

Got a 2018 so have cornering ABS but I’m too scared to properly try it out and pull on the front anchor... I’ll lightly use front at minimal lean angle but I’d hardly call that trail braking compared to what you see MM etc do into corners!

Be interested to hear from anyone else how they find cornering ABS?

I'm rubbish at doing it on the track let alone the road, as always worry about loosing the front :).

Simon Crafar (MOTOVUDU) does some good videos on YouTube for track riding, think he does one regarding the amount of braking compared to lean angle.

Great to read such an honest self-analysis instead of the hero talk: 'I was doin' about 70 and the front must have slipped two feet, but I yanked on the bar and saved it.'

Not much of that on this forum, but we all know some of them (other forums) are full of it!!

Word of friendly advice if I may?

If you do trail brake on the road and it goes pear shaped, then I recommend that you don't mention it to anyone, especially your insurers.

It could be very costly to you for a wholle number of reasons.

When I first got the CBR It was the first time I have had ABS, I thought, like you do in a car, go on a gravel area, pull the front brakes see how good it is, Bollocks only works over 25mph, should have read the manual

Has anyone tried out cornering ABS? Actually grabbed a big handful of front when leaned over?

I haven't, but would you mind doing so as 'community assistance' for the forum?:)

Wind forward to 1:55 for cornering ABS demonstration.

This blade is the first bike I’ve had with electronics beyond a headlight and indicators and it certainly makes me feel safer (and was a reason I gave the missus for getting a new bike) but I still don’t think I’ll be pulling on the front brake leaned over unless something really wrong has happened

Should have a comparison to the honda own ABS on pre 2017 blades. You know for the random occasion where the lever comes all the way back to the bar and you’ve no brakes

Is that a thing? I’ve seen the mega thread on pre 17 ABS bikes but only had a cursory look as doesn’t affect me

I'm in fast group on track and trail brake pretty deep.

I'd never dream of intentionally doing it on the road, I've got a wife and kids.

For interest, as you're an accomplished rider, what's the difference in that you deem it safe and reliable on track but not on road? Seems contradictory.

if you slide off (low side front end) you dont hit anything hard.... roads are far different, therefore safer on track than roads! not Contradictory at all as far as I can see?
