    Hi,

I have a 2012 Anniversary Blade with 7200m on the clock which I'm very happy with but I do find it has a lot of transmission backlash when rolling on and off of the throttle. Such that you hear a clack when taking up drive. Since having the bike I've fitted a Akra Can and PC5 and had it dyno'd so it is pretty smooth on and off the throttle but there appears to be a lot of play in the driveline. I've fitted new chain and sprockets which has made a small improvement but it is very difficult to pick up drive without a clack. There is no quickshifter fitted - would one help?

Does anybody else have this? Is it just normal? I used to have a 2004 GSXR600 with 18k on the clock that was exactly the same so I don't know if it's just normal or whether I have a worn box.

    Cheers

    Stu

Is the chain slapping on the swingarm?

No. All new and tensioned correctly. Cush rubbers seem ok but I’ll replace anyway. It’s nothing obvious I can see.

Yeah all the gears. Have to be really smooth in the clutch to avoid a clack through the driveline. Notice it most when getting on the power out of a corner.

Put the bike on a rear stand , then with the engine off put it in gear then rock the rear wheel back and forth , see how much movement there is , you might pin point the prob . Worth a try

    I second that.
you can also check the slack in the cush drive with the rear wheel on the ground

So I had the front sprocket cover off this evening. There is very slight but clearly visible movement of the front sprocket on the output shaft. The bolt is correctly torqued and was checked, removed and retorqued. Even so you can see movement between the sprocket and the washer on the bolt.

I even swapped the front sprocket back to the original factory one and it was exactly the same.

Is this normal? Nothing looks wrong or out of place but it seems bizarre that the front sprocket is not tight on the output shaft.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that that is how it is designed.
Might have been in the thread of the guy (forgotten name and cant be @rsed to look it up ) who bought the crashed and burned blade and restored it.

Yeah I've done some research on it and it appears to be correct. There's no other visible source of play other so I'll have to live with it or change the bike.

My 2011 also has a bit of a lapse, but I don't worry about it as it matches my mental state.

    That would be me :)

The front sprocket is splined onto the gearbox shaft and not supposed to be 100% tight. There should be some play, although very minimal, which will not result in any noticeable backlash.

How much play do you have in the shaft itself when in gear?

when RR8 hit the market, acouple of testers swore honda had put in some form of traction control on the bike, to which honda said no they hadn't

but what RR8 had was a something called like ignition interrupt timing control to reduce the drivetrain slack (gears, chain etc) on the throttle off to on transision.

If your has it, then maybe it is not working properly
