Not sure if this is widely known, but a lot of travel insurance policies will only provide travel insurance cover if riding a motorcycle up to 125cc, not good if using the Blade overseas. I have taken a policy out with www.holidaysafe.co.uk who cover riders of bikes over 125cc They also offer extra cover for leathers etc whilst away.
Always took out travel insurance separately with breakdown, covers repatriation back to UK if the worst happens, and covers all eventualities, inc dangerous activities. Never paid more than £30 for the both.
Yeah I always take out my own insurance for Euro bike trips too - as Si said, never more than £30 depending on duration and will cover you for repatriation too.
I may have worded my initial post incorrectly or it has been misunderstood, I am reffering to health insurance, not breakdown/recovery insurance. Some insurance companies will only include health cover if riding a small capacity motorcycle( at standard rates) should your Euro Trip include riding a higher capacity bike you may not be covered, Before taking out additional health insurance for the trip, just check with the company that you are protected. Sorry for any confusion
Oh sorry mate, thought when it said travel insurance you meant the vehicle. I don't usually bother with health insurance in Europe. I carry my EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) with me so that covers me if I need treatment.
What it does not do, is allow you to get home should the worse happen and you are unable to ride / travel without assistance. I fully understand it covers the medical bills for treatment but I always travel with medical cover.
I have always used the following for the Travel Insurance as it does cover bikes as detailed below: https://www.direct-travel.co.uk/faq/am-i-covered-whilst-riding-a-motorcycle/
You're right, it doesn't. But the European breakdown cover does so i just stick with these. Each to their own though and you need to strike a balance otherwise you could get insurance for all sorts of things!
The problem with relying on breakdown insurance is that if you breakdown on French autoroutes you can't be recovered by your chosen operator. On French autoroutes breakdowns and recovery are dealt with by approved ( read expensive) operators and these change on different sections.
Do not buy RAC euro breakdown, no help at all, and never paid the expenses of rider getting home without his bike, absolute rubbish help
