Hi guys, as you know 3 of us are going here: HOTEL VERONA - La Grotta Hotel a Verona Travelling via Folkestone, Strasbourg for the night, then onto Verona. To stop us having the bikes loaded up with gear, we are sending a suitcase from here over to the hotel with our stuff for the week, and are taking the bare essentials ( toothbrush, passports, puncture repair, tools, spare undies etc) in large bum bags. Essentially, we are travelling without luggage, which will make things easier and lighter. Any other ideas from anyone versed in travelling abroad, as it's our first time on a road trip.... cheers!
don't drink yellow snow, but really careful in France, they are very hot on Speeding as you may no Si if you read any of the le mans stuff on PH. We had no issues with france but did want to get to Spain quick because its a lot cheaper check some of the threads in the touring board. lots of handy info posted in there also mate
Yeah, done france in the car umpteen times, but never saw a copper on the roads all the time i was there. We are planning to leather it to Strasbourg, stay over, then go scenic from there.
Careful though - you won't necessarily see the feds in France. I've noticed a few parked up behind bushes with the speed traps on the autoroutes, and not always in marked cars either. Also if you see a sign like this on the side of the road then there WILL be a speed camera within the next mile or so: A French colleague of mine tells me that even if they don't get your rego on camera (some are forward-facing, some rear-facing), if you're far enough over the limit they will alert any gendarmes nearby to come after you. Not sure if that's true or not, but not worth taking the risk. Finally, the bike cops hunt in pairs usually and they are VERY fast, and not hi-viz like ours are.
Love Verona, fantastic place. My tip, practice your defensive driving, especially in towns. Ask any Italian driver 'Who has right of way' and the answer is always 'me'.
When I went to LeMans we were tanking it @about 150kph,the MCN guys that were following us in their Civic got pulled @ 170-180 kph............plod took them to local town and releived them of 95 Euros,we caught sight of the crafty f**kers ahead and throttled down........sure scared the crap out of us for a few miles,we came off the toll road at LeMans and there were a load of them checking ALL bikes!,felt sorry for the German guy in front of the Q,a dog sniffed the weed in his rutsack........game over for him me thinks!.Yep...plod over there will hide and jump out on ya at the last min..
