Go to the TT website and look at home stay prices start at about £25 per night bed and breakfast then look at the steam packet website to see if you can get a ferry i'm going for my 4th time and i booked the ferry the day i got back last year so you might find it hard to get a ferry. link to TT website Welcome to iomtt.com - The official Isle of Man TT website + link to the steam packet website Isle of Man Steam Packet Company
it is nearly impossible to find accommodation in or around douglas unless you are prepared to go for at least a week , or are prepared to camp. The problem is ,that most of the old hotels that used to do b&b have now been turned into apartments and sold off. You may find a homeshare but you may find you are miles from the main towns such as ramsey or douglas because people tend to book the same accommodation each year before they leave. As fireblade says ,try the tt websites. Also ferry crossings are usually booked up a year in advance although they sometimes come up on ebay ,as you only pay a deposit when you book them and then pay the remainder off by 28th of february . It is a pain to do (i had to find accommodation for 8 of us around Douglas ,which involved me sending off hundreds of emails before i managed to get us booked in 2 homestays.) but it can be done. it is well worth all the hard work though, just think..... no speed limits over the mountain and one way traffic ,where else in the world can you do 180mph legally on the road? there may be a link here to me messing around at last years tt, but i am crap with computers so it might not work. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tsmhBlfXgg
Im still trying to sort some self catering out for me and dad but seems like there all gone this year haha worth keeping an eye out on iomtt.com there was a double room put on there before in port erin when it gets near feb check hourly for bookings usualy alot come up around that time as everyone bottles the payment time then haha also check out the little southern 100 course in castletown really quiet and great to nip round but shhh shhh keep that to yourselfs haha tend to stay on there alot great fun when you want to get away from the madness of the TT course biggest advice in the 30 zones keep to 25mph they are ultra uuuultra keen and make sure u accelerate after the signs not before few peeps got caught out first year we where there always a gun at the bottom of hilberry and they can get from a fair whack away oh and watch for zeee crazy germans LOL but deffo one of the best things you can do ever be my 4th year over
I went last year for the 1st time and absolutely loved it .Ferry as said already is the most difficult to get, I got homestay for 6 of us in Douglas at £25 a night . Good luck with it and you will love it .
I went 2years ago, best week ever!! We stayed at Crosby via home stay, ideal pub just up the road and central to most places and easily jump on the bus into Douglas at night! We couriered out clothes over and just took basics with us on our bikes, and see hutchy win all 5 was amazing!!
I've wanted to go for ages, and my dad is on my case to go every year, but I only get a week each year to do as I please on the bike and want to ride as much as possible hence I opt for Europe to explore... Although all your comments are making me think! Think I'll bite the bullet and go in 2013 as I've already sorted this year out.
be carefull on the southern 100 course , we went around it last year , there is a straight 30mph part that you could easily do a ton on , and there was a copper sat in someones drive entrance with a speed gun. but if you get caught speeding it is your own fault, there are plenty of no limit areas ,so why speed in areas with limits ?
We tried to get a cottage rent after the end of last year and every where we called was taking bookings for 2013, and that was June 2011. I'm too posh for B&B, so you can imagine what the thought of camping does to me. Jeanette works with someone who lives there who she's attempted to get to become part of the Home Stay system, so if he ever agrees, I'll let you know.
I went last year for the first time and loved it, going again this year on my own HRC. Book your ferry now! Homestay is good thats what I do, im staying with the same family this year. And lastly when on the mountain section keep looking in your mirrors... there are some bloody fast riders during the day, to be honest in practice week during the daytime many of the professionals go up there for a quick lap before the evening practice. You will love it. Check out my video if you havent already from my visit last year.
I am a bit of a TT fanatic, been every year since 1985,plus the Manx about 12 times, get yourself there, you will love it
went last year for the first time, flew over and camped for a couple of nights. hope to go back this year with the bike. brilliant place with a terrific atmosphere, well recommended.
I have booked my accommodation for 2013 just need to book the ferry as soon as they are taking bookings for 2013. Will be there this year for race week have considered posting my luggage out but i think i'l use my ventura luggage system to much of a leap of faith for me to trust the post.
another vid for your viewing pleasure if theres a few of us over we should deffo all try meet up it'l be brilliant this year MV's back on the mountain course hutchy back going to be brill
Me too would love to go but just not sure how much racing you get to see..? I mean sat road site bike goes past..........x mins later......I guess radio is the way to hear whats going on... Also I don't drink and don't enjoy watching my mates getting sloshed and talking shite all night long plus I like a good nights sleep..lol I watch it each year and have done since I was a boy thanks to the net and new feeds from sat etc you can watch a whole load from home sometimes like the BSB etc more can be seen from your arm chair than trackside...well ish if you know what I mean.. Since my short time being spoiled in the support races in BSB I hate being with the public....lol Grumpy aint I...!
I know what you mean Arthur,i love it but it's not everyone's cup of tea A radio is essential to keep up with the race. In the last few years more transponder points have been put in round the course so info is even more upto date. Also there are now a couple of speed traps on the course and the speeds are broadcast. I agree about seeing more on tv but as you say thats true of BSB etc also. If you get out on the course to a fast section i am sure you will be blown away by the first bikes thru There is loads of stuff going on thru the week, beach racing, owners club meets etc. I do like a drink so it helps but i have been over helping competitors and it's great fun just different with hardly any beer !
Thats the one thing I would love to see for real its hard to get your head round just how fast they go, was it in 07 Bruce clocked 207MPH.... I mean F##K 207MPH on a road through town....lol That has to be seen...
