...As Tigger would say. Just wanted to say a proper goodbye (for now) to you guys/gals. Thanks for all the help on previous problems, and for generally being a pretty decent bunch. Other forums and there members could learn a lot from you guys! Anyway, as of Wednesday, I will no longer be a Honda owner. The 2008 has failed me for the final time, and it has reached the stage that I'm riding it and getting anxious about whether I will will reach the destination. 3 times in 9 months she's ended up on the back of a wagon, and I wouldn't mind but I have thrown so much cash at her since getting her 18 months ago (Engine rebuild, new front loom, starter switch, fuel pump just to name a few), just in the hope of making her reliable, and she has failed me again, for the final time. Breaks my heart, but she's off to a breaker. Would not sell her privately as I'd feel like a shit selling a bike I didn't have 100% faith in, and can't afford to PX against anything I could guarantee would be any better. So, when I can afford another one, I'll be back... thats if I can resist going for the R1! Take care everyone and keep it sunny side up!!
Very sad to hear, Andrew, when bad experiences turn a person away from riding, whether short or long term. It would seem you 'inherited' the problems from a previous owner, which is not nice to surmise. Hopefully you don't can the brand over this one experience, but as you might have read from some of my entries, I wouldn't stop anyone from looking at (or buying) the R1. Finally, you don't have to absent yourself from the forum. Sometimes, even a weekly glance can keep you up to speed with model developments, bargain sales, etc.
You’re still allowed to join the conversations without a current blade - sad to hear and good luck anyways
Don’t need a fireblade to stay in involved in conversations. Good luck with your next bike whatever it may be.
Shame to see you go I am Yamaha convert, but this is a great forum so I have stayed on, and still feel welcomed by the regular crew
Agreed....... No need to leave the forum, sorry about the awful luck you've had with the bike. Just goes to show..... Might be a Honda but there is still a few lemons about!!
Sorry to hear about the mechanical grief - money down the drain it can seem like when things go wrong ! I don't like having to keep changing forum just because I have changed bike - fed up with doing that - as it can be circular anyway, you can end up back again some time later anyway. See what happens with the new Blade, but had to give the R1 a go for sure, otherwise no way of judging what other bikes are like. Stick around.
Oh that is beautiful....... My next bike for sure! I see Wigan Yamaha are doing 2019 models with the free Akra exhaust deal for just under 15k now. So tempting especially in your colours @Mattie660. I'm not keen on the grey front mudguard and tail unit on the 2020 model if you opt for a blue bike and I really don't want a black one! Either way I can't wait....... I may end up with two bikes in my garage at this rate!!
Shame to see you go and a double shame it's going to a breaker! I'll be looking for a winter project for a track bike next year! But as the others have said, stick around, it's not all about blades
Yeah man don't go, I went from a Blade to an R1 and am still here, they can't get rid of me and PauloHRC, you can always buy a cheap fairing from China, easy way to get the colour you want I went from black and silver, to black, white and blue...to match my leathers lol Love the look of the new blade however not sure i will fit on it...
Just stay and chat bikes. This is by far the best place, I am also a Blade to Yammi R1 convert. I don't post much, But always look forward reading new posts.
That seems a pretty good deal, and it will be Euro 4 instead of the more restrictive Euro 5. Those Akra cans are quite expensive - about £700 or more. I reckon the R1 is a great package - and it all works. Price is very reasonable. A few yoofs were standing around it the other day at the footie asked me about it - they liked it. It still gets comments of "nice bike mate" from various people. Fits me like a glove. In PWR 1 it is so responsive, motor spins up so easily with so little effort - sound is amazing. Cornering is so precise. Locally, including mine, I know of seven of them locally owned - Yamaha got that one right.
Have you put Chinese on yours @SimonRR?? Or are they just monster decals?? Is it really sad that I'm already looking at monster decals on ebay???
No, just par for the course!! I did join a Yamaha forum which has a couple of our members, but quite seriously, there's not a lot happening on there. AND, there's no @Lozzy or Di
Fully agree with everyone on this....I did have more than my usual mosey on other bike forums whilst stalking @nigelrb when he went on the Great Flounce & some are quite meh....apart from PH biker banter where it's like a permanent pub fight lol Think your bike was probably buggered up by previous owners as in general the blade is probably the best all round older sb out there. Don't let it put you off ever looking at another
Chinese painted fairing, however one small Monster is a stick on decal, plus I have a belly pan with decals I stuck on Got my OEM as good as new, all wrapped up and stored ready for the day I sell the R1 too
