a typical catch 22, after years of being pissed off with my job i decided to go back to college last year and get a qualifaction in motorcycle mechanics, apart from being stuck with some muppet (just out of school, couldnt find there ass with a map and compass) let alone what a motorbike is, kids the course was great and i now have a city and guilds lvl 1 qualification im motorcycle mechanics, woo hoo! great, oh no! trying to get a job or someone to take you on as an apprentice is ni on impossible, either im too old (30) or i dont have enough experiance in the trade. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
So if anyone knows of a garage owner willing to take on someone in the hampshire/surrey area please give me a shout.
    thanks

Try Motts motorcycles in Basingstoke, I wouldn't take my bike there for any work but they will jump at the chance of cheap labour

Fair Play for having a go and getting your result. Might be worth seeing if you can help out somewere (if there are no full time jobs ) and work your way in.

The part about u being to old. Just your thoughts? I hope

As I would have thought employing a 30 over a 18 would be ideal. More life experience

All the best finding a job mate

Your just down the road from me, can't help with the job but if your out and about give me a shout we can have a chat. I'm on the other side of the coin run my own workshop have many years of experience in bikes road, racing, custom and mx wanted to get a job some time back to ease the load of finding work but no one will employ me as I am a conflict of interests....lol you just can't win! So I'm still on my own plodding along, I've been thinking over the last few weeks of jacking it in and going gardening again, peace quiet and time to myself.....sooooo tempting! My workshop started up for my own love of bikes and the joys of making people happy with there's but I've had a few bad ones this year and when the satisfaction goes from the job you feel low!

Well done on your achievement! It's not easy getting any job or apprenticeship as it is these days.A dealer or workshop will need a mechanic sometime so hang in there.Your age will be a plus cos most teenagers today are too bloody lazy. Are you good enough to go it alone?Good luck:)

First off mate well done! So many people would sit and do nothing, and you've had the get up and go to improve your situation and chase something you enjoy!

It may be worth trying to get involved with a race team on a voluntary basis somehow. You could work in the week and gain experience to the point where you could become more involed in the future with racing spannering, or you could move away to traditional work with the benefit of having good references?

Odiham run a couple of teams in the NBC and are always on the lookout for mechanics to travel with them on race weekends

please dont jack it in, people like you are few and far between, most garages just see ££££ when someone walks in the door, but with guys like you who enjoys what they do is a godsend!
