looked at some websites for tyre prices and noticed the offer a £4 tyre insurance (against puncture, deflation, ...) Has anyone bought one or looked into this? Sounds like a good idea to me
Sounds like good value, but I'd love to see the policy and list of exclusions. It could end up like the near-scam of paid for extended warranties!! (Apologies for my pessimistic view)
you are absolutely correct. It is the law of the jungle when it comes to money; sad but true. I think it was "mytyre" & "tyreleader" check it out
@bonjo , this site was recommended to me by a forum member: https://www.oponeo.co.uk/ I recently purchased a pair of Pirellis through them. Fast service and the tyres were March and June 2018 stamped. Beware that many discounters offer 'stale' or older stock as clearance specials!!
yes I paid them a visit too. I also noticed most on line sellers have more than one price for the same product but the description doesn't always show the reason. called oponeo and the guy said all their tyres are less than 36 months old. That is 3 years man
I've had tyres off both and still do. The cheaper prices are for the older date stamped tyres usually. Just get the higher priced one and it should be fairly new. Suppose it depends as well on how long it takes you to get thru a tyre. If you're on 2 to 3 road sets a year I don't think it matters so much if they're a few years old.
yes finally got round to checking the insurance small prints. For the one year cover, there is a 20% excess deducted the purchase cost only. when the tyre tread drops below 3mm, the cover expires. Considering most sports tyres start life with only 4mm depth, doesn't take long
I guess you need to do your maths to find out if it is suitable for your needs, the insurance maybe covers you for say 2000 miles of road riding before you reach 3mm (a lot less for track of course) so if this is what you do in a year and you run expensive tyres, then may be worth it as the cover is comprehensive.
