I've been looking at tyre prices on the Oponeo and Tyre Leader sites, specifically the Bridgestone R10. Seen some good deals however some of the tyres have manufacture dates going back to 2011/2012. Would you be put off by tyres that are 4 years old, especially regarding more track orientated rubber?

I was told to change car tyres at 5, I "guess" its the same for bike tyres, but even on a road I would stay under 4 years, certainly on a track I would want newer rubber than that under me  Maybe I am just worrying after having been thrown off a bike with old tyres that had not been used in a few years!

P.S. it was a mates bike and I paid for all the repairs.

P.P.S. I ordered some PR4's from TyreLeader a few weeks ago and they were 2015 dates :)

I just received a Rosso corsa from tyre leader which was a 2015 date. It just seems that a lot of the R10 tyres are advertised as being 2011 and 2012, probably why the prices are cheaper.

I would say that's the reason, but I am only making a best guess.

I got a 2011 pilot Active for my old BMW R100 RT it's fine and cheap. I would be more cautious on something that will go quick tho. As a side issue the tyre fitter said he wouldn't fit a tyre over 4 year old, I don't know what the reasoning is for 4 years tho.

For what is worth, Michelin recommend checking tyres for condition after 5 years and replacing them after 10 years.

I'm no 'Rubber' Expert, but that advice sounds balanced and realistic to me,

If in doubt pay a little more?
Cheap dated tyres could mean you don't feel confident getting the max enjoyment from the bike?
Personally as its the one thing that keeps you upright on the road, I would spend as much as I could (or needed too) on decent rubber.
Loads of great tyres out there these days, so must be a deal around for you on something decent ??

It gives me a peace in mind knowing that I have some new tyres on my bike.. My current Supercorsa SPs were manufactured this year. I wouldn't probably buy any tyres older than 3 years.
