    Hi guys.

Just bought a pair of new Pirelli Diablo Corsa Rossas for my 2010 Blade.

Having got them home I've just realised however that that rear was manufactured in 2011 and the front 2014.

I plan on using the tyres for road and the odd track day.

Would any of you be dubious about tipping into a corner on a tyre that's sat around for 4 years?

I'm not 100% on bike tyres but car tyres have a 7 year shelf life before they can no longer be sold.

Stored correctly, according to a leading manufacturer, they should remain in good condition for about 5 years...

I once attended a seminar where there was a speaker from Bridgestone talking about tyre technology. I expected the hard sell from him, but I was way off the mark with that, however, Bridgestone have a policy where they won't over produce and control stock well to reduce time spent on the shelf, which he reckoned they had down to about 2 years tops.

Should I return the rear and ask for a fresher replacement?

I'd be asking why such a difference in date, but wont be a problem using them tbh as long as they have been stored correctly,as in not fluctuating temps, harsh cold temps etc.

The tell tale signs of deterioration will be cracking plus, You should be able to dig your fingernail into the threaded area and it should feel rubbery. If it's hard, it's started to deteriorate.

As Scooby said, if this is right and it's been stored correctly it should be fine. Get it fitted and ride it then you'll need a new one in 6 weeks or so anyway;)

I would check this out with pirelli direct. 4 years in the uk may be ok but you need to add the time it will be on the bike as well.
would be interested to see what they say

Tyres are for little girls, they just grip the tarmac and slow you down, i run on just the rims;)

haha i'll remind you of that matt next time your fretting about your tyre wear ;)

i do think theres a lot of worrying about tyre dates for no real reason, obviously you'd prefer the latest dates, but i do/have/will run tyres well past what peoples perceptions of whats acceptable without any concerns.the tyre i have on now are 4 yrs old,the tyres i'll be putting on after that are 6/7 yrs old,but stick em' in the warmers and they are as sticky as any 6 month old tyre i've run.

I use Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsas and had a 2011 tyre on earlier in the year. Used on road and track with no problems. Don't worry about it.

Me n Maz bought our track bike last year, chap said he hadn't used it for a couple of years.
We looked at the tyres but not the dates they seemed to have good tread so we used them for three track days , sharing the bike so effectively 6 track days.
Then someone said the tread pattern looked very old compared to the metzelers out now so we checked the date
2007 & 2008 on the rear  so now I never worry about dates
