Thanks for all your opinions and suggestions but I'm going for the Metzeller M7rr's. I'm going to go 55 instead of 50 as most guys who have done this can feel a noticeable difference. So what about width? Is anyone running different widths or is this pretty standard? Cheers.
I would think if you run 55 on a 200 tyre you could encounter clearance issues. Couple of pals run 180 60 with no issues though.
Would the curvature of a 200/55 not be more like a 190/50 so you would lose the benefit of a faster tip in?
More grip and tip in is good because back end much higher and therfore same as dropping the front end I guess, it feels good on track
The 55 is reference to the height of the tyre as a percentage of the width, as I understand it anyways. The height of the 200/55 would be 115 v the 190/50 which would be 95 so you would still gain over the standard profile.
But with the wider tyre would this still not give a more rounded profile? I would have thought the 190/55 would offer the sharpest tip in?
What about the surface pressure change with a different contact patch? would this change the adhesion and warm up characteristic.
I think it's probably the front tyre which would affect the initial turn in more than the rear. There's bound to be a formula and it would no doubt be affected by rim width and tyre pressure and even manufacturer but a 200/55 gives a steeper tyre than a 190/55 based upon old Pythagoras alone. It can't be that simple tho can it??
