Hi guys. Having been distracted by Ducatis for the past year or so I'm now back home again on a Honda. Picked up a lovely RR-6 blade tonight. Whilst the tyres that came on it have plenty of tread, they are 7 years old so they'll be getting replaced. Question is - what to go for and should I stick to OEM sizes / profiles? The bike will be used on (dry) road and occasionally on track and I know one tyre won't be ideal for both. That said, I'm thinking Pirelli Supercorsa SPs. The chain could also be doing with replacing as I feel a few links that are a bit stiff. What's the consensus on gearing? Leave it as it is or go up or down a tooth either way? I'd like it to be dosile around town but not at the expense of track performance. Thoughts and advice appreciated. It's good to be back!
The Metzeler M7 RR have good reviews for road and track days. If doing chain and sprockets I would just go one up on the rear and one down on the front, sticking to a 530 chain for longevity. I'd get some GB Racing engine covers just in case of an off on track also. Apart from that, if you want to do a bit more you could stick a Brembo Master on for better braking and maybe a PCV if it has after market slip ons.
Supercorsa SP in 190/55 profile will be perfect for dry road and track. I've found Oponeo do the best prices. If you want a bit more mileage out of the tyres Pirelli Rosso Corsa are also very good on both road/track.
Thanks guys. I think I'll go for Supercorsa SPs with a 55 on the rear, a -1 sprocket for the front, a +1 sprocket for the rear and a nice gold DID 530 chain.
Yes I had the SP's on my new R1 for track days in 2016. awesome tyre, very sticky and was great on dry roads too, I now have the M7rr for winter and wet weather. I have -1f +1r on my R1 but went with -1f +2r on my blade for road, and -1f +4r for track. also used the Dunlop D212pro for track and road in 2015, thats was an awesome sticky dry tyre too
