    Morning all.

My rr4 has decided to play silly buggers. It started without hesitation in the garage last week.. About half way through its warm Up up it stalled (holding about 1500 revs). A little perplexed I had a quick look around it and noticed the rev counter needle was stuck at about 12000 revs.turn the key off then on have me the needle sweep and pump prime. It started fine once again. Luckily the seat was off. Within about 30 seconds I noticed a wisp of smoke coming from the starter relay...My stomach dropped.
Key off, battery disconndcted. The relay was really hot to touch.
I'm weak on electrics but this is what I've got so far. I'm heading up to the bike now and will post any findings

Battery connected but ignition off (the relay is still getting hot)
No continuity across the starter relay....so I'm guessing the start switch is fine and the relay isn't contacting.
12v across the relay.....I'm guessing the starter is earthed so that's giving me ground.
With the ignition on my clock lights started flickering and then went black.
At this point I disconnected everything

Sounds bad but probably isn’t a complete disaster. I think maybe something shorted, check the wiring down to the solenoid first.

    A little update.
The 30 amp starter relay fuse is toast but not blown. With the 3 wired plug disconnected the relay stops getting hot. There are no obvious signs of any rubs or breaks in any of the cables as ive now removed the tank to trace the starter wiring.
The lights flickered again and now its all dead. No clocks , no ignition or lights. All fuses are good so I'm truly up the creek.
Only positive is the relays still cold.

You'll have to replace the starter relay but need to be sure everything else is good or it will do the same again. Can't see much of wes's photo on my phone, but test the regrec and generator. Engine stop relay also.
Still standing by what I said before dismantle clean lubricate earth points and the common bar.

The part that failed isn't necessarily the problem.
