After a protracted conversation with our esteemed MrB with regards to recalls. It has become apparent to me that an error has been made on my V5c.

It's too late to contact DVLA today but I shall endeavour in the morning to find out what exactly they wish me to do about it.

Just a typo on the frame number but I'm sure they'll find a way of blaming me. I'll let you know what they say.

Don't wish to alarm but am aware of similar circumstances and the guy I know is still trying to get a similar discrepancy sorted out after nearly a year. However I believe his case is more complicated with potential theft involved.

You may need to present the bike to your nearest DVLA office to have it inspected before a new V5c can be issued.

Had the same thing on my car, took a photo of the chassis number and posted it with the V5 to DVLA, new V5 came with correct chassis number in a couple of weeks

Bloody cheap. I thought it was unusual him asking for cash in a brown paper bag, but he was in a bit of a hurry to get out of the car park so I expect he didn't have time to go to the bank.

Well Smiler's insight appears to be bang on. The DVLA website has provision for this kind of error. Part of their automated reply is quoted below.

"If your vehicle details are registered incorrectly on your V5C you will need to highlight the error, fill in the changes on Section 7 and sign and date the declaration box (section 8). For changes not listed in section 7 you will need to underline the vehicle details in section 4, writing the new information next to them. You must also produce a covering letter explaining the error. If the chassis number is incorrect, please provide an original photograph or ‘rubbing’ of the chassis plate with your document."

Considering the amount of Photoshop knowledge contained on this forum alone, let alone the real world, it would seem that this is a system open to the worst kind of abuse. but I'm relatively certain I can manage what they ask.

Probably without even moving from the chair I'm sitting in as I'm typing this.

My thoughts exactly after getting Jeanette to re-read the VIN of the bike and comparing with the documents after I'd done it twice already.

Hats off to Smiler. He got it exactly right. Just got home to find a bright, shiny and new V5c on the doormat. Adjusted based on amendments made by yours truly to the original under the 'changes' section, a covering explanation letter and a series of photographs of bothe the frame stamp and the VIN plate showing the discrepancy.

It took a while but it's all done and dusted.

Funny, they sent the photographs back a couple of weeks ago with no covering note. Which struck me as odd, but a result has been had.

They gave no hint of distrusting my motives after all Jimbo and Giv', explaining that if I was from a shithole like greater Manchester or the Estuary, they'd have been more concerned.
