    Hello. Long time no post.
My trusty 2011 Fireblade has now done 45000 miles. Trouble free, apart from a couple of cam chain tensioners......and a bit of oil.
I only tour on mine, it's probably only done 1000 mikes in the UK. So it's had Ventura luggage strapped to the back of it for its many journeys down to the mountains of Europe.

I've made some initial enquiries about a new blade. (expensive, aren't they!)
I note that, as with the first SP model of my version, there us a ludicrous 3kg luggage limit on the subframe.
Does anyone have any knowledge of the SP subframe? Is it the same subframe as the standard bike?
The dealer had never noticed this before and was very surprised.

I think the 3kg restriction is the weight on top of the plastic seat cowl

SP Alps small.jpg I used Ventura luggage (small Bag) on 2016 SP for several trips through alps and dolomites without any problems so I think a sensible luggage weight is ok but a 20 stone pillion is going to bend something ok.

So if you can fit a Ventura rack and a pillion seat to it, the subframe must be the same as the standard bike.
I reckon Ian E is right.

    Thanks chaps!

A call to Honda technical should clear it up.

The subframe is not the same. It is a lightweight unit not made for a pillion. However, the luggage shouldn't destroy it.

On the 2016 model the subframe is lightened hence the visible holes in the sides so not designed to support a passenger.

    Cheers.
    Thanks for that.
You would think dealers would know this stuff. They sit there looking at the bloody things all day long.

I think it 3kg on the seat cowl, I am doing a trip to Spain next year and really don’t want to use a rucksack

I have a 2016 SP and as @cronester said, it is lightened.

Can a standard model pillion seat be fitted?
Actually I can answer my own question by looking at your photo!

I've just realised that cronester's bike isn't the current model.
Does anyone know if you can fit a Ventura to a 2017/18 SP1?

Ventura have confirmed that they don't make a system for the current model Fireblade.

They do a system for the standard 2017/2018 Blade - have they confirmed that it doesn't fit the SP?

Great. Even the importer don't know what they're talking about. I will send them your picture and see what they say. They really are useless.
    Thanks for the info!

This is the reply I got back from them.

you probably already know that the load limit for the sub frame on the 2017/18 SP1 is very low. It looks to me like the brackets alone will weigh more than the allowable limit.

As mentioned above, I think the 3kg restriction is the weight on top of the plastic seat cowl.

Is there a difference between an SP subframe and a Standard subframe on the 2017/2018 models? - Other than the colour. Part numbers are very similar and price the same.

On the 2016 model the standard subframe is interchangeable with the SP subframe. It may be the same on the 2017 model also so a possible solution for fitting Ventura luggage.

It doesn't make sense. One rider might weigh 8 stones, another may be 25 stones. They still sit on the same subframe.

I'm going to wait until the 2019 bike is revealed. It may have some bearing on the current models price, or it maybe something you have to have.
