Hi i've bought a venture shield kit for my bike from ebay, it was quite cheap as the tank side bits are missing and it came with no fitting instructions: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120858226...NX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_500wt_1361 I've obviously had a quick look on the internet, but can anyone offer me any fitting tips please. I read that you supposed to use some kind of alcohol spay I think it was, any advise what this is and where to get this?
It's a soap and water spray My only tip is pay an expert to do it it's a bastid to get right and very time consuming. If you get it wrong it'll look horrific!
Ventureshield when i done the tank on my bike used a garden spray bottle with a mild washing up liquid solution , spray tank and venture shield slide into place then squeegee excess water and bubble out, this worked for me
It brought me to tears in the garage fitting this kit , the bits that cover the front fairing are a night mare , good luck , next new bike will go to warrington where they are based for fitting by the pro's
£40 or £50 in my opinion is well worth letting them fit it , i ended upthrowing some of the parts in the bin lol
Don't wear anything that sheds fibres cause they will stick to the adhesive side and are impossible to get off. A couple of drops of baby shampoo in a sprayer bottle with water. Thoroughly clean and degrease the surfaces you are applying to. Plenty of spray on your fingers ( to prevent finger prints on the panels ) and completely saturate the area your applying to, the wetter the better, the panels will slide easier. Once in place squeegee from the center out. Take your time, start with the easier shapes first to get you used to it. If you get some edges or corners that stick up squeegee down and then press down with thumb/palm and hold for a few mins untill it takes. Lastly be patient it can be very frustrating especially the the nose cone and front fender side panels. Good luck it took me best part of a day and a lot of valium .............
Someone on another forum i frequent fitted this to a cbr600. He cheated and used a heatgun and srunk it around complex double curves. Looks invisable untill your about 2 feet away, then you can only tell by the edges.
I got it on my GSXR Thou I sat n watched two brother do mine it took em about 2 hours none stop and they do it every day after seeing what a pain it is I'd never even bother
great stuff, not bad to apply to my Speed triple but a total bitch to the blade, take your time, bets to put it on when its warm. if you can't wait heat up the garage ans its more flexible and just bare with it if you fit it yourself
The bit that will be on my side with this is i'll be fitting it all to new panels that are all loose and not fitted to the bike yet, so i'll be able to do everything on a flatish surface and inside in the warm! Thanks for all the tips so far!
I would bite the bullet and let an expert fit it. I took my Repsol to a guy in Daventry it took him a good 4 hours and he does them every day. You need a nice clean warm garage with loads of strip lighting so you can spot the bubbles and creases - good luck.
When i was talking to Russell from Venturesheild he strongly advised me to apply the sheets with the fairings on the bike as it provided a solid platform to work against, and that it would be extemely difficult to apply correctly whilst working with bendy, unstable plastic panels.
HAHAHAHAHA DO NOT DO IT YOURSELF!!! I consider my sell very good at this messing with bikes no matter what it is BUT as Bobmg says It had me in tears felt like i was killing my paint and wasting 200 notes at the same time loads of it went in the bin i cut a few bits my self and fitted them!!! ITS A FOOKING NIGHMARE SO PAY SOMEONE TRUST ME!!!!!
I'm slowly getting the impression that this stuff is a bit tricky to fit! My next challenge will then be to try and find somewhere or someone in southwest Cornwall to get it fitted! Any suggestions on this one?
At £28.sheets you have nothing to lose so you might as well watch the you tube clips and have a go if it goes tits up you have lost the price of a takeaway.
But if it does go tits up i'd probably have to buy another set at close to a ton and still have to pay someone to fit it!
