http://youtu.be/y-c4qsjc3Lg we have done this a few times now, we hit this after the 48 and 500 in Germany, and take this pass on our way to Italy. if you want a great pass, with every kind of road built in, twisty, switchbacks, long straights, sweepers, open and closed tunnels, waterfalls and great scenery..."then I really recommend you place it in your tour if heading that way.... It's epic. Road surface is fantastic too. Unlike the Stelvio etc... It's not broken up and us smooth as a baby's bottom.
Agree! Love that pass, I do like the Swiss passes (Julier pass, Albula pass, Oberal pass, Furka pass, Grimsel pass and Susten) we do them every year. Stelvio / Groshglokner in particular are well over rated, (but I suppose a tick of the bucket list) Gavia is a crumbly old wreck! The only trouble is Switzerland is expensive, and the government seem to hate anything motorised, with tough laws and harsh fines!
Brilliant video. Been a few years since I have been over the pass. Last time was with my wife on the back, there were a few choice digs in the ribs to slow down! What is the music? sounds like a modern day Tangerine Dream.
I have decided to head out that way next week, was going up north but my mate has had to pull out so as its just me i thought i would follow me nose and go on a tour 7-10 days. Being as i am a tight git i will do mix of camping and cheap hotels. Got a trackday on Monday so will change oil n filter and give the old girl a good look over Tuesday then head off Wednesday.
