Due to the fact this magnificent Cold War plane is almost certain to be getting banned from the Skies by the end of 2015 I'm taking the Fam to the Welspool Air Show next month to see this awesome Bomber in action. http://www.vulcantothesky.org/ http://www.welshpoolairshow.co.uk/ Just cost me £80 in Ear Defenders before I've even bought tickets!
I went to school at the side of RAF Finningley, near Doncaster where the Vulcans were based. When they did the ground runs the windows shook. Mum and. Dad still live nearby and watched the Vulcan fly over the other day. Brings back loads of memories for me.
Saw it last at Goodwood Festival of Speed last year. My dad used to drive one of the trucks moving the wings for the Vulcan when they were being built at AV Row in Manchester years ago.
What's wrong with £3 on foamy earplugs. Still, enjoy the plane. I have seen it a few times and it is amazing
I aim to get to RAF Fairford to see it fly down there, normally watch from Pikey Hill (aka Totterdown Farm) where the view is amazing - its so low it turns the sky black WIll def video it this year - there are plenty of stills but not so much video and you want the sound of the howl it makes on take off Sad it won't fly after 2015 but was amazing to get it back flying at all
This is when I feel a bit sorry for you younger lads. I was around when they were operational. Sitting on top of a hill watching an entire wing 'scramble' on alert so quickly there were two on the runway at a time. The sky, literally, black with paraffin smoke, and... well, you may have to speak up a bit if you ever meet me now. Now, you'd just sit and wait.... For the F35s to be delivered.
Will be a sad day when she is finally grounded, remember watching the Vulcan at Farnborough and feeling the ground shake as she climbed.
I've had the pleasure of seeing this vulcan a number of times flying in and out of Manston in Kent. I live right on the flight path now and the quiet skies are a travisty.
