Never been a fan to be honest, early biking days would see us go up the local cafe 10 miles away, stand around drinking tea and watching older blokes with more cash and better bikes coming and going! Used to be bored out my head trying to kid myself i enjoyed it when I'd rather be out riding the bike.... (Chasing older blokes on better bikes) Put that together with a changing career and more demanding hours in london it meant that wednesday night bike night died before it ever began for me tbh.... Prob been out 5 times in as many years! However with this recent weather and nice long evenings, coupled with my folks soon buying a lovely country pub at the end of my favourite local road, I told myself I'd start killing two birds with one stone and go visit them on a Wednesday perfect... Well tomorrow is Wednesday, after our little ride out Sunday, I'm in the mood, and going out on the bike! Will commute in so I can rocket out of town and head somewhere for a bit of munch, and do a few miles on some quiet roads! Hopefully.... Got me thinking, know a few get out midweek, but are you guys Wednesday nighters?? Where ya go, and what you get up too... Who knows, might even pop into a bike meet, drink tea and get chased out buy a younger bloke on a crap little bike
Weds is loomies for me on any sunny day normally a massive turn out but prob a tad too far from you lol
Deffinately have to have another run up to Poole on a weekend though jimbo if you guys are up for it again?
For me a have a few options from Manchester way: Long / mega route is to Hawes - cracking roads but needs about 45 mins of dullness at each end on m60 / 66 / 65 to make it possible. Needs a rapid depart from work Close easy one is Cat and Fiddle - Tue and Thur always busy, but its 50 limit and unmarked Police needed to calm it down - its earned its reputation for good reason Matlock Bath - about 1hn 15 each way, but being Derbyshire its 50 limit ALL the way and often have police about The 'Passes' are a better option - Snake, Woodhead, Holm Moss, Glossop from Chapel are not in Derbyshire and avoid the 50 limit The Raven / Midway last week was a good call, about an hour to get down there - good food on arrival. Big difference is traffic up till 7pm is busy, esp at start of run, but after a brew / bite to eat its almost all gone. Enjoy the evening Jimbo - where is the pub your folks have started to run?
Biker Nites This is our local one.............. I do a few that suit..... the further away the better............ Would love to see you long distance boys giving us a visit !!
one of my favourites is buxton kebab run - meet up at lymm services m6 j20 m56 j9 (?) then a respectable pace through kuntsford to the cat n fiddle pub, pre-order food from the car park, then a steady 50 to the centre of buxton for an awesome kebab good pub next door as well.... well, good beer. tbh its the only pub i have ever been in where everyone is totally wasted! usually you get the odd one! its worth it to see the inbreds staggering round then a good hoon down long hill through whaley bridge, turn left at the lights then head into pott shrigley and rainow through some awesome twisty B roads that bring you out back at the tesco in macclesfield a nice 80 mile run, set off 6-630, usually back for half ten
An R1 zx6x2 fireblades x2 we meet at a s/stn in Sittingbourne.A249 onto m2 off at Rainham and go through Gillingham onto lower medway, into medway tunnel then round the back of Rochester up onto m2 north or south depending on time.(I love that sweeping right hander and left hander leading onto m2) down to a228 blast up to West Malling. We have two choices m20 or A20.If its M20 we all four dash to the exit off the lights.John on zx6 is absolutely lightning off the lights, no one has got ahead of him yet.Me and Soonbedead are too busy keeping our front wheels down.If its a20 we use the dual carriageway then on a20.Again a good set of roundabouts to go over. Then quietly go onto a20 for 3 miles (plod).Arrive for a coffee and chat at Oakdene (25 roundabouts).Leave there then hit the Gravesend road for a few miles and venture off through to Shorne. Hit m2 then off at strood then back through medway tunnel through Rainham then back on m2 then a249 home. All this route is 95% dual carriageways with the odd single road through towns where limits are roughly adhered to.Get home bout 10 ish.
No dullness for me on the way to mine straight on the twisties from my front door all the way to the cafe
will do, bought a nice country pub on a village green just outside canterbury. pretty much the route there, decent quiet lanes tbh... and 40 miles so not too bad of a run http://goo.gl/maps/HvjCZ
More like older blokes on crap bikes. Some of them at Oakdene are terrible with oil leaks, won't start, all noise and no go, even gaffer taped up.You do get some very nicely done bikes too.Worth walking round and seeing all walks of bike life.
Test the water first mate, the locals will either love bikes or loath bikes.I'm sure a few on here could venture down there and nip in for a pint.Meeting point for us southerners maybe? Nosh up if they do food?
ha ha - they will own it! so locals aint got much choice! lol been down a few times already, couple on the bikes once with Dave and the chicks a couple weeks ago - no bother at all dude. Do awesome food apparently, so that wont change, have to see how they get on and how mass groups of bikes rocking up in their qaint little village goes down... but i'll be going there on a wed night regardless. dad even said he'd do a bikers discount for us! lol
They haven't met the racefit yet though mate which could change their views Still papa Jimbo like it!
Well I thoroughly enjoyed my eve out got three bike meets in lol Met at oakdene, down the lanes to h's then onto Adelaide cafe near deal... 4 of us in total inc Jo who recently passed but rode fantastic, exceptional for a newbie!! The bikes parked up Mmm retro Nice evening for it Proper cafe
