OK OK not essentially Bikey but I am on the look out for a 4" 1/2 in Grinder. mainly to be used to fabricate a few bits for my kit car, cut, remove rush and sand back weld etc.... I want to buy one that should last me, it will not be used daily So any recommendations on makes and models? i've looked at Scerwfix and here Search results for angle grinder : Tooled-Up.com and Ebay So far. Thinking DeWalt or Mikita and power tools I have had over the years have been good and reliable. I would Say Bosch But heard they are not as good as they used to be 5-10 years ago So thioughts?
No need to go over the top dude mine is from aldi I and has lasted ages came with blades as well good HD kit was about £12.00 at the time .Have you looked at Machine Mart they have 64stores and 115 mm disc grinders are 900 watt motor @ £23.98 1050 motor @ £33.59 and 710 Motor @ £35.98 try Machinemart.co.uk
If you are a proud of his tools man Makita are really good, I got one gifted 3 years ago, its had the hell knocked out of it but no dust, going great. I also use cheap crap from B&Q for dust, pointing etc, they last quite a while, but do go eventually. but if I used the Makita on that sort of work I'm sure it would give up too. My conclusion is if I was paying for it. I'd get the Makita if I was using it on metal, as I like nice tools and it'll last a lifetime. but if I was also using it in brick dust I'd buy a crap one as nothing stands up in those conditions....... Good hunting, Mike.
stunning feedback all. many thanks. from the reviews going for the Makita 9554NBKD Angle Grinder 115mm,. I was looking on Tooled up. but Screwfix have them for £10 less so going to pop over there next week
Cordless is rather overkill for me, for how often i'm using it it's not worth paying the extra. But going with Mikita as he's recommended and been good to me in the past
Im a stonemason / restoration builder and along with all my power tools my grinders get a daily beasting. I've had a makita one of that size for 6yrs and its still good. Watch out with prolonged use because the vibes can give a bit of numbness and tingling but nowt that thick gloves don't solve. The motor bushes and bearing for the drive shaft are easy to replace and service as is the whole thing if owt breaks. Usually a wire will work loose inside the handle, but its easily sorted by taking the cases off. De walt are also good.
A Bosch owner here Matt, being a roofer I use mine mostly for chasing out mortar pointing before fitting lead flashing or for re-pointing chimneys. Don't use it every day but when I do it's gets some hammer! Had it for over 10 years, never serviced or anything replaced!
