With a few thread on mileage from different tyres. Some people needing more miles due to communing or Touring, Others like me more for fast road and track

How many miles are you happy with when it comes to tyre life?

For me I always think (right or wrong) that a tyre that lasts many many miles may mean they are harder and give less dry grip. So I normally go for the Fast road track tyres and if I get over 2k from the rear I'm happy. I only do 4-5k a year anywho

Since having the blade I have got
1500 from the OE Dunlop qualifier (did not like that tyre at all)
Dunlop sportsmart - up to 3k from the rear inclduing fast road, track and touring. I found the limit of the grip on them so have moved to
Dunlop D211 GP. not expecting alot of miles but lots of grip for the money

So what you you want and expect from Tyre life

2k from the Metzler interact k3 including a track day and Dyno day, I love them and have ultimate confidence in them.

Like Matt I have the idea the softer (road tyre) the stickier with less life and the better the life eg M5 the harder compound, longer life, less grip ultimately.

I know this is not completely true in normal road conditions they will be as good as each other but as I use my bike for blasts and the odd trackday the idea my tyres are better for what I do gives me the confidence I need :)

The main problem is its an expensive gamble to try something different and if you get it wrong your stuck with expensive replacement or 5k of a tyre that you don't trust :(

I wouldnt agree that the longer a tyre lasts the less grip it has. its well known that the dunlop Q2's dont last 2 minutes but the dunlop sportsmarts will easily last twice as long as the Q2's and there is no way the Q2's give more grip than the sportsmarts

I'd expect to see 3k out of a rear. Any more would be nice but hey. I like getting new tyres anyway so it's all good.

That's what I was trying to convey Fez I know its wrong but its just the way my brain processes :(

Almost fitted the Sportsmarts to the 1098 but decided I would go with what I know and put K3s on even though it had brand new qualifiers fitted I just don't trust them hated the OEs on the blade absolute shite !

usually about 1.5 rear tyres to a front, I never really count the mileage.
but would guess around 700- 1.5k depending on the time of year

I totally understand what you mean jamie as i am the same. When i was 17 and didnt really have a clue about tyres i had a cbr 600 with bt -021 tyres and rode it like an idiot. but now i would never ride like that on those tyres as i now know there are other tyres that offer much higher levels of grip.

The tyres are still the same and are still more than capable but my brain now tells me i need the latest and greatest even though in reality there is not much differance. its all down to mind over matter and how you deal with it.

too right, your bike and tyres can do a lot more than your mind can
in most cases.showed this to a guy saying he couldnt knee slide due
to poor tyres....showed him it was in his head not his tyres.
