If anyone's interested I've done a little digging into personal insurance market here in the UK including Life Cover, Critical Illness Cover, Terminal Illness Cover, Travel Insurance, Income Protection Cover, Personal Accident Cover, Health Insurance, Lifestyle Insurance from AVIA, AIG, LEGAL AND GENERAL, SANTANDER, ING, ZURICH, LVE, SWINTON, HSBC, BARCLAYS, SCOTTISH WIDOWS, LLOYDS, HISCOX, SMART INSURANCE, NATIONWIDE, NATWEST, RAC and found only 4 of them actually providing cover for motorcycling accidents (albeit the payout is reduced to 50%): AIG DIRECT, BARCLAYS, HISCOX and SMART INSURANCE. The product is called Personal Accident Cover / Insurance and appears to be far superior to those bundled with motor insurance, credit cards, bank accounts and holidays. Interestingly I have also found independent Insurance Brokers pushing Life Insurance with (typically) Critical Illness Cover and not knowing / willing to reveal that such insurance exists (something to do with their fees?).
My insurance company offered me a hospital and injury cover For an extra 5 quid a month so I couldn't say no.
The AIG PERSONAL COVER Platinum (£500k) costs £12 per month, see here: Personal accident insurance | Personal accident plan (if motorcycle accident then payout reduced by 50%) The main thing is to read the Policy document cover to cover, check the exclusions, check the payouts for various situations. I wouldn't be too surprised if some of the accident cover policies we get with motorcycle insurance don't include motorcycling!
When I had my accident I was in hospital for nearly 7 months, it took me just over 19months to walk again and have then had countless amounts of operations to repair me. Ok I was knocked off so any payouts were down to the other insurer but I'm sure it's the same idea. It was just under 6 years until I got a payout and by the time I did I had already lost everything I had and hit a major form of depression due to my debts, losses and things I was unable to do! What I'm trying to say is make sure any of these insurances pay you from day one or you could end up with years of extra suffering and losses/defaults
wankers are quick enough to take the notes off ya. but 6 years to get something back is a fuking pi$$ take! will be keeping eye on this thread as i've not got a thing
I think some insures claim they pay a "wage" from the first week of hospital treatment just make sure that's included
going through same situation at present, just coming up 5 years, not a pot to piss in,insurances take the piss, the only winners are the solicitors they are guaranteed their money.
If you need any info mate just give me a shout, it's not a nice situation to be in, I was accused of lying and alsorts! Don't let it get into your mind mate as that messed me up for a while
dont worry mate if you do have a spill just make sure its someone else to blame .Istarted reading it thinking he was going to offer something good its just waffle
Yea but if you actually read the posts mate the 2 of us that have been knocked off waited 6 years for a pay out and lost everything we own before receiving a penny! I lost my house, vehicles, job and everything else I owned! Then you come out with a stupid comment like that
i can not go back to building,so business gone, and just on the verge of losing my marriage.for the other party to be 100% at fault is good, but if you cant work and dont have plenty of money in the bank, you are on a loser, and whatever pay out you get cant put right everything you lose,or mentally and physically have lost.i am now starting a part time job for 120 quid a week,so having someone else at fault means f--k all to me.
Unfortunately our society has become a bit of a one way street. Ordinary decent people get ripped off left, right and centre. I get really sick of it, you have to have insurance to be legally on the road but when you want to claim it is made as hard as possible to get what you should get. My Fire Service career was cut short because some d..head decided to drive like a twa* while I was on the way to a call. At the time, the long term effect of my injuries was not apparent, three and a half years later it led to my premature retirement. I was given a pension, but this was woefully short of what I had been earning and what my earnings would have been with further promotions. Not only was there the loss of my career which I loved, the loss of income and the physical pain and subsequent loss of being able to do a lot of things I used to do. I ended up in a huge depression, had to sell my house and downsize and ended up divorced. As for the other driver, he did not get prosecuted and had no injuries. So I feel for you guys that have had to wait for compensation. Unless we get a revolution, things will stay the same, screwed whichever way you turn.
I just don't see what he is saying its nothing new is it .LIke you say ins company's are always trying to get out of paying or try to wait as long as possible to pay out my mate had a car Crash not his fault he lost his hmv licence and car licence and job he had to fight and push it buit got wait for it. 1.3380.08 that's 1million three hundred and thirty eight thousand and eight pounds as for waiting I don't know anyone who as been payed out from day one as ins company's don't accept Blame even when it ovious that's all
You're wrong there gringo! Your mates hmv licence is still valid as they got pulled outa liquidation by another company! Stand on me Guv, straight up I tell ya!
