What is this bird

    I'm not really into birds (no not like that I mean feathers etc)
    This has been flying near me the last week and it's pretty big!

    I would guess its a kite looking at its tail ( maybe red kite )

    It seemed to be playing in the wind as if it was a kite..........is that why they get there name?

    I would agree with Barney..Red Kite by the look of it...
    Great photo's Martin considering it's an iPhone you're using :)

    Would say red kite as it has a forked tail! Pretty low aswell cracking bird

    Only noticed it as it seemed to be playing about right above us, at some points that low I could of prob grabbed it out the air

    i,m a bit of a twitcher martin and that is a redkite. used to be very rare at one time in uk, but now quite abundant in certain areas. awesome bird, and excellent piccys with iphone

    Ye, Red Kite. Loads of them in the Oxford area and the numbers are on the increase so wouldn't be surprised that they've got as far as your neck of the woods.

    As all said, Red Kite, you see them now off the M40 and in mid Wales, hoping there will be some near my new place in Gala too,

    As first reply said, it's a buzzard, to big for a kite.

    100% Red kite the tail feathers give it away, can spot a mile off forked = kite buzzard are rounded tails, the wings of a buzzard slighly heaver looking.

    Just googled pics of buzzard and red kite and defo looked more like the kite in person

    Yeah that's unmistakably a Red kite. Beautiful birds in flight,. I see them swooping down on bits of road kill etc in Windsor Great Park as I'm riding my push bike through there. You can get real close to them at times when they are looking for food.

    +1 for a Red Kite the tail feathers are a dead give away that signature V shape! And the fact I was a square child hung up on ornithology I liked nothin better than lookin at a nice pair of Tits o_O :D

    I was wrong with buzzard having now looked at pics of red kite! Every days a school day as they say :)
