So I pick up my blade in a week or so and the reason I spent time going through and joining the forum was mainly on information on what to look for when buying a cbr.

I can guarantee this question has been asked a million times but with the search function I just couldn't find what I needed to find out.

My main concern is the oil burn issue. I am looking at a 2009 cbr and from what I've read was mainly a 2008 issue. Is there anyway of knowing or testing for this? The owner seems quite legit but you never know.... He's only had it 6 months so would like piece of mind if that's possible.

Also are there any recalls that I should know about? And can I check to see if they have been done?

And finally this being my first cbr ill obviously be running a hpi, where abouts are the engine/frame numbers located?

    Cheers guys

    Hey Matty,

I will start with the numbers info, the frame number is stamped down the right hand side of the head stock the engine number might not be visible without removing the fairings as its behind the front wheel area on the engine next to the oil filter.

There should also be a sticker on the left hand side of the frame giving the relevent info for the bike when bike was built.

As for the oil issue the 08's were the most pronounced and honda created a new piston ring setup that was fitted to 09+ models but any year can be affected! Not exactly sure how many bikes total % wise were affected by high oil usage issues bearing in mind the blade has been the best selling 1000cc sportsbike for some years and people dont tend to take to the internet and shout about how this and that is working brilliantly on there bike, they only tend to do this when it all goes tits up!!!

Anyway my advise is just be perceptive when viewing the bike (take a friend to viewing as a voice of reason) you will have excited head on and could miss or overlook things due to this.

Check over service history and once bike is warm and running give the throttle a few blips on look out for plooms of smoke coming out of exhaust.

Give the bike a good look over and check for crash damage (cheap swapped out fairings), fluid leaks things of that nature, talk to the owner and sum them up and why they are selling the bike.

    Hope some of this helps.

    Good luck with your viewing/purchase.
