Guys, after some advise earlier on how to remove my fuel pump i successfully managed to fit my PCV following (very carefully) the video and instructions from the PC website. Pleased with myself i started the bike and it was running horribly. it sound like it was running on 2 or 3 cylinders and the exhaust was kicking out some bad smelling black gas. before this it was running fine with the PCV. I have no removed the whole thing and put the bike back together, i fired it up and it sound better but not right for about 5 seconds before cutting out, i fired it up again and it cut out, if i rev it it will keep running poorly but as soon as i stop it cuts out again, still giving off the black smoke but not as bad. I eft it for a minute an tried again and its now running and not cutting out but the rev needle is bouncing and you can hear it idling lumpy. If this makes any difference i did remove the positive and negative on the battery whilst fitting. Also the PCV was previously run alongside the same exhaust but without an 02 sensor, on mine i have the 02 sensor fitted and working. Massive apologies for the Essay but I'm concerned about my bike and I'm hoping someone knows whats wrong and how to fix it? TIA
Check the wiring plugs in case you pushed a wire out the back of it, so it not making a good connection
I did mate I checked everything twice, my thinking is because I left the O2 sensor in but the map on the PCV is to run a delete is caused to spaz out. The reason I think for its not running right when I out it all back to normal is an air bubble in the fuel line causing it to cut out then the bike just trying to get back to its original settings as the PCV threw it off. I was hoping someone was just going to tell me I'm right ha ha. I can't see how anything can be seriously wrong after I've put it all 100% back how it was before.
Any chance you've crossed any of the plugs? Double check you've not mixed the middle injector plugs around 2 for 3 and vice versa. This would see the bike trying to inject fuel at the wrong time in the firing cycle and the smoke you see out of the exhaust is badly burnt or unburnt fuel as it would be introducing fuel into the incorrect cylinders maybe when it's on the wrong part of the stroke.!!
That does sound exactly like what's happening however you can't get them mixed up because one is make and one is female, I checked to see if I had mixed any of the plugs up and they will only for where they fit. I checked the instructions in the PC website and the video to make sure I'd got the right coloured wires to injector 1 and 4 and according to them I have. So strange.
The injector itself would be say male but plugs 2 and 3 would be female so it would be possible to mix them up.
When I first fitted my PCIII I managed to plug the TPS plug into the map sensor as they were both blue and when it went on the dyno the operator couldn't get a stable reading. It does happen.
I'll have another go tonight when i get in, I'm not happy that's its not running right at the moment so ill have to sort it, I'm hoping i can get in to fix it without taking the tank completely off for the 6th time as its a right ball ache. I did try all the different ways with the plus apart from trying to switch injectors 1 and 4 around but the wires are colour coded and i followed the instructions.
So....i tried again last night and triple checked all my plugs, i even switched the plus for injectors 1 & 4 to make 100% sure they weren't backwards and the bike ran lumpy with loads of smoke exactly the same as before. I put it back to standard again and it was running just as poorly as when i fitted the PCV, this had me worried, i disconnected the battery then fired it up and left it to run up to temp and the fan kick in without revving it at all. it didn't get much better. I traced the cable from the o2 sensor into the bike itself to realise the previous owner had fitted a delete into the plug so how could the bike re-map itself without an o2? I took the o2 delete out, disconnect the battery and left it to run up to temp on its own again and the fan kick in. after doing this i gave it a few revs and the black smoke had gone, it sound much better and seemed to be running near normal with the exception of a slightly up and down idel (pulsing). Took it out for a spin and it felt so much faster than it did before, i was really surprised, the idle is still pulsing slightly on tick over but the back has a lot more top end power. all i can think is that the PCV is running a map that horrible wrong for my bike despite the guy i bought it from telling me its mapped to run with my bike and exhaust combo. maybe it has somehow reset itself? Anyway for now disaster averted, i will be taking it to Jordan's and letting them re-fit the PCV and map it correctly on the Dyno. Anyone any thoughts on any of this?
Personally if you think the map is shit, just download a generic map for your can from the DJ website.
I was going to but i don't have a cable yet, i think I'm just gonna take it to a garage and have them do it and dyno it.
