looking at having a go at doing my wheel bearings, is there a good brand to get or are they pretty much the same? is it a pita job?
There is often a big difference from £5 bearing to a £10 one. Try and go oem or Koyo. Relatively straight forward, just need a bar/screwdriver to knock the old ones out and then either use the old bearing to tap the new one in or use a socket. Just ensure the socket sits on the very outer edge of the bearing. The metal spacer/tube inside the wheel will move just enough to allow you to get the bar/screwdriver down the middle and onto the edge of the old bearing to knock it out.
I didn't bother changing the sprocket carrier bearing BTW. Once you have the first one out the rest come out quicker as you know what to expect, how hard to hit them out etc. Make sure you put some wood under each side of the tyre to make sure the wheel if off the ground and does not get damaged. Also, when knocking the bearings in tap around the old bearings/socket in a circular motion to make sure it goes in square. A couple of hours should do it mate
I used All-balls racing bearings ... a few people recommended them on here. It's very easy to get old ones out.
Worth a watch, good old Delboy, Just another tip I was told about, not sure how much difference it really makes, pop the bearings in the freezer for a few hours and get them out at the last minute.
The All-balls come with seals as part of the kit. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-CBR...215248?hash=item2cbae64950:g:5AkAAOSwajVUTQT0
Guys, I was reading this thread with interest as I'm looking at replacing my wheel bearings also. Looking at the All-balls website, they state that the rear wheel bearing kit is for 2004-2007 cbr1000rr. Will this set also do later bikes? (Mine's a 2010). Many thanks in advance for the help!
Thanks mate. Had a look again: the ones I found that did 2004-2007 bikes had the same part number as ones offered by another seller for 2008-2015 bikes, so look like they're the same.
