Wheelie School???

Has anyone ever been to one of these things?

I quite fancy learning how to wheelie and would rather learn properly rather than coming a cropper in a car park

 

if you do go make sure it's to one that you can ride on their bikes

I consider this a while ago and im glad i saved the money now. Just get out there on an empty backroad and have a go little at a time. Better yet do some trackdays! Once you start riding faster the front wheel being of the ground isn't as daunting just happens. Unless youre wanting to pop it up to BP and go through the gearbox.. that i cant do!!! Yet..

 

i did one at rufforth air field near york a couple of years ago so not too far away from you .
used their bike which is fitted with an anti flip device ,got front wheel up no problem ,but my wallet tells me not to do it on my blade.

 

I was at Silverstone a couple of years ago for the MotoGP and on the big field with the various other stores they had two bikes on rolling roads (rear wheel was fixed with a bracket so it couldn't leave the rolling road) with the front wheels tied with a certain length rope to stop it from flipping over.

It was £10 for 5 mins a was great for learning to get the wheel off the ground and playing with throttle control trying to keep it in the air, however when the front wheel is at a peak point it is quite daunting by the lack of view you actually have, combined this out on the road and it's not a situation i would like to find myself in.

I don't mind lifting the wheel a little off the ground but to get to the point where you need to stand up over the screen and keep the bike balanced at speed must take some skill

 

All I'm really interested in is learning to power-wheelie. Not necessarily to be doing stand up wheelies down the high street

 

I think they are a fun day out but nothing more, won’t help you wheelie your own bike..
People who go want to learn to wheelie, they go learn on some bandits or old bikes then come away able to wheelie them very nice. However they then get on their sports bike and don’t want to put what they learned in to practice as they don’t want to damage or come off there bike which is the same position they were in before they went on the course!

As said above practice on the road and gently build up, that’s what I’m doing I’m no wheelie king My two cents

 

in that case mate, get in 1st, shift ya arse back, sit up a little, get to 8k and pin it!! will come straight up......

as tyke said, find a quiet road and build up gradually....

wheelie school is all about clutch ups...

 

If you gear down -1 on front and just wind open at 60mph in 2nd it comes right up dead nice

 

My TL1000R learnt me to wheelie ha ha standing on pegs up the box 2 gearboxes later lack of oil empty wallet meant fewer wheelies lol

Did the one near York, not for me have to say it was more controlled using the rear brake, defo not power wheelies.

I know what you mean .. i couldn't get my head around using the rear brake to dip the front end before the wheelie , managed it ok by dropping the clutch though.
I had a go on a tuono v4 with the anti wheelie aprc .. took it on a test ride and just kept it pinned going over crests in the road, i thought i had overdone it once but the aprc saved me from flipping it.

I'm dying to learn to wheelie, never had the bottle to do a clutch one on my old bike but looking forward to powering one when I get a blade
