Anyone heard of, or been on a Wheeltrax X-treme tour? I've done a couple (this year & 2009) & will be trying to get a group together for around July next year, if anyone is interested? Format is pretty simple. Scoot down to Germany & drop the gear off at the Hotel (4 nights half-board accommodation). Spend the next 3 days screaming around the smooth, grippy & car free roads of the German countryside (these roads are AMAZING). Spend an afternoon at the Nurburgring Nordschleife. Scoot home the following day. Full on bikes, beer & banter. Both trips have been phenomenal & don't cost an arm & a leg. Check it out & let me know: Motorcycle Tours Germany - Nurburgring Mosel Rhine motorcycling holidays
I can vouch for the roads in the area. They are fantastic. How many miles do you do a day ? I prefer to spend the maximum time riding to spending lots of time visiting stuff.
It's maximum riding. The days are essentially depart at 9am, 20 min coffee break at c.10:30am, 45 min lunch at c.1pm, 20 min coffee break at c.3:30pm, rolling back in to the hotel carpark at between 6pm(or a little later). The pace is set by riding at the speed of the group. Wheeltrax manage the pace and position of the riders in the group according to speed & ability very, very well, so you really do make progress. Over the 5 days, I covered just shy of 1,800 miles (900 return mileage, so c. 300 miles per day on the touring days). The 'visiting' stuff bit is when you have your breaks & lunch etc. The whole point of Wheeltrax is fast/sport riding tour taking in as many of the excellent roads & routes as possible. I can't speak highly enough of them & will be going back for my 3rd tour in July next year - hence why I thought I'd see if I could drum up some early interest here (there probably 4 or 5 of us from this year, that have already committed to next year already).
Sounds very good. A bit early for me to commit right now especially as I haven't actually got a bike after my last euro trip ! Trying to weigh up the pros and cons of a guided trip over DIY. The fact you don't have to think about a route is quite appealing, we made some mistakes on our trip and ended up with a few lengthy motorway stretches and expensive tunnels. It's quite hard linking up good roads without local knowledge. I also like the idea of a decent meal at the end of the day. Some places we stopped at were better than others. DIY does give you a bit more freedom and also a sense of having made a journey rather than daily ride outs. Will give it some serious thought. I'll also try and get round to doing a write up of my recent trip which was great fun up until the last hour or so.
I could be up for that if you guys don't mind an old lady turning up . I'm already in Folkestone so handy for tunnel or ferry
He'll no. Ride a bike? You're in. Seriously though, check out Motorcycle Tours Germany - Nurburgring Mosel Rhine motorcycling holidays and the reviews on the other forums (I went with the gixerjunkies this year), and you'll be sold. Only took us 3.5 hours to get to the hotel from Calais
You know what fella - that's sounds a blast - keep me posted I'd be up for this! Espesh autobahn's + nurburing
Anyone fancy going to see WSB at the Nurburgring in September and including the trip as part of a Wheeltrax tour?
Did the Ring a couple of years ago 4 times and like others have said.........would be nice to let someone else sort the route/hotel/night life out. When?,How mucho? are the questions .Keep the tread alive cus I,m intrested.
Quite a few guys from the Gixerjunkies forum have done the Wheeltrax tours and speak highly of them. I like planning my own routes etc, all part of the fun for me, but if I get tired of it I'd certainly give Wheeltrax a go. Saw some of their videos and impressive stuff. JD
To be honest I don't see the point of paying for a tour guide in Germany around the nordschleife area as getting there is so simple and most roads around that area are stunning so getting lost is all part of the fun. We stop at a fantastic hotel every year and normally twice a year, it's a biker friendly hotel, massive secure garage, workshop, jet wash , leather cleaning kit in the rooms, everything you need plus they have paper maps of local routes and only 3k up the road from the ring. Bit quiet at night but still great food in the hotel and another pub up the village that has a pizzeria. If you wanted more nightlife you can easily taxi to many of the other local areas where the ring passes through. I'll post some pics up of the place if you like, can even help with suggestions of routes locally if you need it. As long as your group are all similar skill level you'll love finding new twisties
I've been a couple of times & loved it. The dates are 6th to 10th September (race is on 9th Sept). €618 (about £520), which includes 4 nights half board, 2 full days touring, ride to the Nurburgring to watch WSB, and a Gold entry ticket for the race, which includes allocated seating in the covered Grandstand. Only additional costs are Euro Tunnel, fuel, lunches & beer. Details - Motorcycle Tours Germany - Nurburgring Mosel Rhine motorcycling holidays
Sounds a decent price that mate, I'm a big DIYer personally, and would never do a guided thing for my main holiday, but a four day warp to Germany sounds very tempting indeed. Im out of credits this year me thinks, but next could be possible..... Although Lisa is away from 4th to 7th may.... Any ideas???
I'm doing 18th to 21 May in N. Yorks, then Le Touquet the Sunday after. I hear ya - my credits are super slim this year as well. Work travel has gone through the roof (Faye was not too chuffed when I told her Friday evening that I was off to the US for a week...leaving tomorrow). Ideas wise....Lads weekend away to watch BSB at Oulton Park, or hop on a plane to Italia & go see WSB in Monza? Don't forget 7th is a Bank Holiday. Or just get wasted for 3 days, then clear away the evidence & (pay someone to) clean the house for extra credits?
Know how it is, I'm away mon to thur with work at the mo! Isn't the best.... Want to use it as bike time, so think I'll just hit the road for four days, wherever weather is best.... Owe myself a solo trip, bit of camping etc. Although company is always welcome!
Can do the dates, otherwise I'd put myself forward as a worthy compainion. Route Napolian? Alps? There was an excellent article in Fast Bikes a couple of months ago - I can scan & email it to you when I get back, if you like?
Can or can't do these dates?? Yes please mate - I'll pm you my email... Think it'll be a ring dart, route napoleon, or Scotland.... Will look at options closer the date!
